I keep seeing them as patches on this aussie biker gang show on right now, and I have seen them so many times in the cab of trucks, on peoples walls and on clothes etc here in NZ... So why? No one I've seen with one is from (the south of) the states, mostly know nothing about the American civil war, and always seem to be red necks who at a guess are only interested in the racial slavery involved with it...

So why do people have them? C'mon, I'm sure someone here has one:shifty:

Actually, if you had one I could respect that, because I can understand that the flag could represent a piece of your family/area's history that goes further than pretty much the only thing people associate it with. Racism/slavery. I just find it funny when someone who has usually never even been there wears the flag because of what I just mentioned.

Simple...Wannabe "rebels" display that flag in exactly the same unthinking way that wannabe "revolutionaries" wear Che Guevara t-Shirts...plonkers the lot of 'em. Either that or they're old school Dukes of Hazard fans like Sarge. :done:

The origins of said flag (if its the one your on about) are often confused, its the battle flag of Northern Virginia,no racism no anything, simply the battle flag of northern Virginia.

Yea, but a confederate flag, nonetheless? Indeed it was.Though with far less sinister meaning then than what is conveyed these days,or at least mis-understood.

Ross Kemp's exposé on the gangs of NZ kinda explained the MM approach to nazi symbolism - it's not so much about the nazis, it's just about pissing off the establishment. In which case it makes perfect sense...

The biggest difference between white supremacists today and those of half a century or more ago, is that the average IQ has fallen significantly. The truly scary thing about the nazis is the fact that plenty of intelligent, talented, hardworking and ambitious men bought into it.

I wish I was in Dixie, Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand
to live and die in Dixie.
Away, away, away down south in Dixie.
Away, away, away down south in Dixieland

...
If you want to have a good time, jine the cavalry!
Jine the cavalry! Jine the cavalry!
If you want to catch the Devil, if you want to have fun,
If you want to smell Hell, jine the cavalry!

Jeb Stuart was a fine cavalryman, and Jefferson Davis was at least a gentleman. Which is more than could be said for either that insufferable prig Lincoln or the boor Grant.

These days they prefer "white nationalist".Not that much has changed really when you think about it.:doh:

I've only seen one displayed over here and that was at one of the music festivals that John Hore and his wife use to run at I think it was at Whitecliifs.

I can't see the relevance of it outside of the USA other than to promote a badarse image.

Southerners that's a different story..........it's and emblem of culture and to some extent a lost cause.

Now all been explained why some people have a penchant for adorning themselves, their trucks, their utes and getting tattooed with a Confederate flag, why do Aussies love flying the Eureka Stockard flag. Bet half them wouldn't know what it represented beyond a bar room story when they were tanked up on XXXX.
