Don't mess with perfection. Marmite was turned into the effluvium of a suppurating yeast infection a few years ago and now the Aussies are going to turn Vegemite into cheese.

The drought is obviously affecting the IQ of food technologists in Australia.

Some things should never be meddled with.
I really detest the 'new and improved versions' of some old favourites.

I saw this on the news last night and was about to go down to the stupid market and clear out their existing stocks of my favourite spread. How dare they add cheese to it and turn it into the colour of well, shit really. Turns out they will still make the vegemite I love too, thank goodness.

Did you see those kids tucking into that new stuff? Man they needed lessons on how to eat properly

Meh.

Who cares.

As long as they leave the original Vegemite intact, I couldn't give a shit.

File this in the same place as Green Fanta.

Agree entirely Jim. Its like the Cadbury chocolate story. I used Cadbury's website to give them feedback on the changes to the chocolate taste, size of the bar and price and I've got back quite a long reply that basically says they did it due to comprehensive customer research. The Vegemite story is the same, they are saying this is what people asked for. Yeah right!

As an aside, when I was in England in January I bought some Vegemite there and it actually tasted absolutely ghastly - the recipe there is already quite different than here.

Meh - cheese and vegemite sandwiches are a playlunch special. This just saves mum from having to peel the 'singles' for the little darlins.

The porn kings will love it, now they will be able to recruit some ladies into scat movies who otherwise wouldn't, as they ........... had a little taste

Have you noticed that UnZud supermarkets now have "cheese in a can".
Yay for progress, huh?

I'm waiting for "Coon Cheese" to be released in NZ. it is always a crackup in the Aussie hypermarts. (Only because I am easily amused).

Also, why is NZ cheese cheaper in Straya than it is in NZ? Surely not becuase we are being ripped off by NZ's largest most rapacous company?

Yep! you're on to it Merv. I don't recall being asked if i would like to have my products in smaller sized pakages for the same or higher prices so it sure makes you wonder where they got their market research results from.
With the vegemite, they are still keeping the original but are also adding a vegemite blended with cream cheese to the range

Yes, Vegemite and cheese sandwiches are great - but cheddar, not cream cheese! I can't even begin to imagine what this will taste like and won't be rushing out to buy it when it goes on sale here.

And Mom, you don't have to rush out and buy up all the stocks of Vegemite - this will be in addition to the original spread, not instead of.

They're looking for a name for the new blend and I quite like Paul Henry's idea - Spreadymite! (Not sure how he would spell it though, it may be Spreddymite!)

It sounds as if he is copying other media again...
"Cheesymite" crisps have been developed by Robert & Jono of The Rock FM (http://www.therock.net.nz/Home/Chipflavoursuggestions/tabid/370/language/en-US/Default.aspx#feature), with the involvement of Bluebird.
