We just changed my wifes car. Isn't it funny, you set out with a budget and a short list of cars, and end up spending more and buying something completely different.
We started looking at Nissan 200SX's, they were so raw and noisy that her 14 year old Skyline drove better. Then we checked out Altezza's, good cars, but too dear. Then we saw a Hyundai Tiburon coupe, 2002 with 8,000 k's.
I always said I wouldn't have a front wheel drive car, but this thing is so smooth and it corners like a kart, brilliant. Respectable amount of go too, has a sequential shift for the auto that's almost as good as a manual Asked a friend in the trade for an opinion on resale, etc. He was quite positive about the brand. Commented that Altezzas are like arseholes, everyone has one.
The dealer moved the required amount on the price and the deals done.
Funny thing was, they puppy dogged her, gave her the car overnight while they shopped the Skyline around. On the way home I saw this car on the bridge and thought "that's an exotic looking thing, wonder what it is"?
Surprise surprise it was she, on her way home.

Good on ya!
We bought a little 1300 Hyundai for Vickis Mum a while back and I had to drive it from akl to ch ch. Slow (ish) and a bit crude but it has stood up well to aged parent driving and associated non maintenance. Runs on the smell of an oily rag. I'd have another one..
Cheers

For the price you could have got her a '84 Laser and got another bike with the change! :msn-wink:

Strangely enough she didn't go for that idea. I did have visions of the bikes I could buy for the same dosh though.

What's happened to the MX 5 love affair? I simply can't see my wife giving up hers for anything (apart for something completely out of our price range :yeah:

Hyundais have certainly improved over the years - I remember the first ones we worked on were MkIII Cortina chassis with Mitsubishi engines, later front drives were just rebodied Mirages, always solid bodies and the suspn and brakes were up to the task. The later model ones seem pretty good too,but I can't place the engine for these,do they finaly make their own?

I quit that a year ago, just didn't seem the same after I bought the RF.

I believe it's their design, well regarded in the States too. Very smooth with a great mid-range. Not a great top end though, all over by 6000.

'84 Lasers ROCK! We got ours for 3000 in 1996, still going despite the amount of rust on it, and it is surprising impervious to death
Also Altezzas are pretty awesome

They might be reasonably priced and spec sheet reads pretty good, but man, have we had some down time with this sucker
