View Full Version : Otago: Virtual Tag-a-rama

I was thinking that another game for cold winter nights/days, and for those that don't or can't ride. (Or just nothing else to do) while other tags are being done. File photos ok ... it is virtual eh !!!
The task is to find location of Bike, as it is in the photo ... and post map (Google or other) showing location. First one to post map with correct location, gets to post next photo.
This game can not only be a National game (NZ)... but International too (Worldwide).
Below is a photo of mine, clue is within 100 km's of Alexandra. ... Simple eh !!!
New tags posted CAN be Adventure areas .... so road riders CAN do gravel... and dirt.
Let the game begin ...

Nice bike, but it could be beside any one of 100 paddocks within 100 K's of Alexandra
Interesting twist on the tag theme though

Right area ... clue is in my albums for a closer position. Unless your map isn't playing for me either.
Another clue is that white line ... a few more photos are in my albums of that spot.

the picture title will give a very rough idea of where we are looking,I took this picture when i was out looking for Number 19 (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1129244678&postcount=267) welly tag
This was a purpose built facility for a LARGE car company. They relocated there from their original plant in Petone. After ckd production ceased it was used for storage/warehouse/offices only.It has since been sold
"Although the opening of the Petone Plant in 1926 was a milestone in New Zealand's industrial history, so too must the occasion of the opening of the new Trentham (also in Wellington's Hutt Valley area) assembly plant on August 26, 1967 by the Rt. Hon. K. J. Holyoake, Prime Minister of the day."
"June 30, 1999 marks the last day of head office operations for xxxxxxxxx at Trentham. The plant was purchased in February 1999 by a Christchurch based property developer."
google street view you must replicate

correct, obviuosly my last two clues were too easy!
The "two" clues I used were 'trentham' and the hill in the back of the photo... and then look maps and chucked the street view man on the two streets nearest the hill... easy....

Kemet was correct .. a big slab of concrete makes this view impossible now.
The view is of the area in the Cromwell Gorge known as Jacksons.

It would be the Clyde dam that has changed the look of your original photo eh?
Clyde Dam is the largest concrete gravity dam in New Zealand consisting of one million cubic metres of concrete. It's height is 100 metres, width at base is 70 metres, width at crest 10 metres and length at crest 490 metres.
Controversy surrounded the building of the dam, which saw a number of orchards and houses removed from the Cromwell Gorge to allow the flooding of the river valley. The lake formed by the dam, Lake Dunstan, is 26.4 square kilometres in size.
The lake extends from the historical township of Clyde through the Cromwell Gorge to Cromwell township, with one arm travelling up the Kawarau River to Bannockburn and the other widening out over the Lowburn Flats.

I was only little when they built it, so my childhood memories were of watching the water level creeping higher as we drove to Queenstown for the school holidays....
Speaking of Q'town, there's something else that has changed - and not necessarily for the better.....
