What's a good website/tool for planning bike trip routes around NZ?
I want to plot the course and get approximate distances etc?
I know I have seen someone comment on this before, but I can't find it, so sorry if this is a repeat!

google maps
type in say matamata to wellington you can then click on any part of the highlighted route.....say sh1 down the side of lake taupo and drag it across to the western side...the route and mileage change...

Google Maps is the one I use when I want to drag and drop routes, ie plan a yee-hah bike trip. I use wises when I want accurate directions and trip times. Usually I will consult both these before going on a long trip, as often they will recommend quite different routes.

Managed to figure my way around google maps, so sorted for now, but will give motowhere a go tomorrow when I have more time ... got to go pick up my girl now.

Yeah Google maps is good. Until you get to about 26 points on your route.
i.e. A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y, Z, then I can't add anymore :bash:

Another tool I like to use when planning a " Tour " is a New Zealand mcycle atlas book titled " 100 Top Rides " by Peter Mitchell awesome dude who has reviewed alot of roads in NZ...:rockon: adds to the excitement of all the planning that goes into a big ride
