A week ago the rug was pulled out from under me....

Starting my day off as normal gathering a mental list in my head of what I needed to do in town, setting off out in the Car...It wouldnt be long before my day became a state of confussion and a week on it still is

Last thing I remember was getting about 1km from home the next 1.5ks and 3 intersections I have No memory off

How on earth I never hit ANYONE or ANYTHING I will never know..Even parking in someone's drive with Car resting against the fence,1st to arrive the police so it seem rather Ironic it was a DOG handler giving my nickname:shutup:

Then the Ambulance arrived and off to ED....When ask why I was in Hospital I replied because my back is sore and it still is aweek later and have no idea why..as I got out of the car and walked to the ambo... (I dont recall any of this its what I have been told by the doctor)

My first memory Was Seeing Melissa(my partner) at my bedside Maybe it was the fact that she was the only familar thing in a day full of confusion..

Despite all the bad press Wanganui Hospital has recieved in the past I can say the staff and service were great and the nurses always smiled commenting to Melissa how nice they were,it was then I was told that they had undressed me and I wasn't wearing undies:innocent::shutup:

After being subjected to scans blood test and more scans I was free to go home yet no-one was any the wiser what had happened too me.Today I had a specialist Appointment still no wiser but have had xrays done and am to have a EEG done I'm hope that in time one day I will have all the Question's answered but for now its one day at a time

I am Gutted in the fact that until I get answers I cannot drive or ride for minimun Of 6 months

But I am greatful that I never damaged any propertry or anyone and that all my bikes are safe that I came through this and I am here to say that....and Melissa still has too put up with me :wari:

Not sure how you will handle not riding your bike though for the next 6 months.

Wow mate, that's a shocker - just pleased to hear that you are in one piece and that your good lady is taking care of you. It must be one thing that we all (especially those of us who take to the road on 2 wheels) must dread happening. Hope the doctors get to the bottom of it and that you recuperate well.

jeepers mate... glad you came out of that in one peice [and so did everything else on the street that day] you ought to come in to $2 shop tomorrow and say howdy.

there was an accident on the vic ave/guyton street intersection today... not sure what happened... heard the sirens at work and stuck me head out the door. eventually i was walking up the road for a better look. there was a guy on the road wearing a bicycle helmet [no sign of a bike though] and a works truck parked up. totally impressed with the speed that the cops arrived... 2 cars.

Holy fucken arse crack Batman!:gob: I wondered what the hell was going on after reading the R&R thread.
I hope you get some fast answers Baz and maybe it's just a one off. Nothing worse than being uncertain of uncertainty. Chin up dude!

Clearly you need a faster car. That'd keep you awake.

18th June 2009, 21:40
Had a similar thing happen to me. Fucked up the next 6 months or so then things went back to normal and put it down to a once-off due to pushing my body past its limit.

Not driving was the worst.

Mom
18th June 2009, 21:47
It is horrible when things like this happen. Concentrate on getting to the bottom of the whys and the how to prevent its from hapening again. As you say thank God you did not collect anyone in your path, and thank God you were not on 2 wheels when it happened.

Six months seems like a lifetime, but it will go by reasonably quickly. What a hell of a scare! Take care of yourself eh.

And ffs wear undies. Did your mother never tell you to make sure you had clean ones on? Guess she forgot to say make sure you wear some :dodge:

18th June 2009, 22:11
Sorry to hear it, that's gotta be a shock for you.

It sounds a bit like a condition that happened to my mother back 5 years ago. She's quite alright now and the occurance was attributed to excessive stress. Depending on what your doctors find out you might just have to slow yourself down a bit and make sure you don't habitually over-commit yourself.

Best wishes for getting on top of it!

nudemetalz
18th June 2009, 23:08
Sorry to hear that, Dude. :(
I know EXACTLY how you feel !!!

I had 2 seizures just out of the blue about 4-5 years ago. Suddenly diagnosed with epilepsy with no known cause and lots of time off bikes. Frustrating to hell.

If I can be of any help, let me know :)

PirateJafa
18th June 2009, 23:09
You might as well go for one last epic thrash. I mean, you'll be walking for six months ANYWAY...

obviously your not reading the posts carefully, :nono: Dogs did not mention a cyclist as there wasn't one.. I think you will find Sunhuntin was talking about another accident outside her work which involved a cyclist :nya:

Dude, shitty as it might seem, like you said you're still kicking around and no one else come to grief so there are some silver linings there I guess. The next six months will be difficult for sure but with the love of your woman that's looking after you and your afore mentioned projects life could be worse eh..
I really hope though they can get to the bottom of what went on and why so perhaps something can be done about it if need be, hang in there Baz.
I think we need to organize the odd group visit from time to time just to check up and make sure you're behaving yourself. :msn-wink: :niceone:

From reading these it sounds like you're not the only one anyway.
It happened to a guy I worked with almost exactly the same as you although he finished up driving into the end of his boss's garage when driving the boss's wife home.Turned out he had had a small stroke. The good news is that he did his time off the road, came back to full and normal health and has been driving instructor for these past 7 years with no further incident.

Man, that isn't good! I know it's not the same, but when you are up to it, maybe some good sport on here will take you for a pillion ride to blow some cobwebs out:yes: and here's hoping someone gets to the bottom of the cause for you...

Good luck with the tests.

My thoughts are a mini stroke Baz. After what Ive been through recently I can sympathise. Have had to fend for myself but even with a cast on foot and stray clots floating around they havnt told me I cant drive . Have opted to not ride until my bloods have sorted out as I stilll get dizzy spells when standing too long..all the best with the outcome matey.

Thoughts are with you Barry ... I know its tough when you don't know what is happening .. or how to get there ... keep pushing your doc to get over the bump of diagnosis ... remember though this may be a one off .... thinking of you and Melissa .. I am so glad you have someone good to look after you!!

No good, I hope they find out what it was, and sort it out so you can get back on the bike aye!

I know someone who blacked out while driving on the open road, unfortunately he had passengers with him, he was fine but his friend ended up mentally and physically handicapped in the accident and will never have a great quality of life. I am glad that your accident wasn't more serious. :sunny:

I had a trapped nerve in my spine without even knowing it several years ago and i had several fits and spasms causing me to be totally mind fucked and blank (some say im still like that) but when the cause was found (the nerve ) i was cured by a physio program that took a while but worked a treat . Now i have to have a neck manipulation every year just to keep everything in line so it wont happen again. The spine is a funny part of the body and can cause all sorts of ailments. I hope its as simple for you and you can be reassured by all the feelings for your health by the members here.
I hope its all sorted soon and you can get a clearance to ride your fun sounding projects.

Paul.everyday is a little bit closer the support network is great guess no one likes too see a fellow biker knocked of their perch....there is a few bikes too do and test ride so maybe sending out SOS for some TEST PILOTS its not the riding down the hill that concerns me its the pushing the bikes back up the hill:laugh:

Sometimes you want to wonder/shout why friggin me god.But my way of thinking is someone is worse off than me which helps(say it enough yeah right),but is pretty close to it.

A few in hospital ward having cardio thorasic surgery were typical, had quad bipass or new valves and having them rejected by body and more tests, some were only 50 yrs old, some 70 didn't matter.

Well my step-bro had something similar happen to him about 1 year ago. He came home from work, had tea, sat down to watch a vid and next thing he wakes up in hospital.
According to his partner, he was fairly normal, quite tired (being a Friday), not that talkative, ate tea, video on then he started standing up, waving his arms around, thrashing, she couldn't control him, making noises but not coherent, called the ambulance then off to hospital with a couple of mates holding him down.
Seizure. No driving, not supposed to work on roof tops and with dangerous things BUT being a builder that didn't stop. On pills, 6 monthly checks, EEG normal...
Still on meds and feeling normal so, no history so what the f...?

The doc warned me that EEG may come back normal and that it could be a one off situation and never know why it happened meaning it will be meds just to make sure 6 monthly cheak ups

At least I can say all test so far have come back negitive

Yeah, it is shite that you have to go through all that to be told that tests are negative. My step-bro said he felt very tired on his way home but apart from that there was no precursur.
