Passed my full bike licence this morning. Bloody lucky though...
Turned up 15 minutes early and thought I would check indicators, lights, horn etc for the 10th time. All of a sudden my back brake light doesn't work!!! Couldn't believe it as I had checked it all before I left.
Tried fiddling and frolicking with wires etc. but to no avail and thought "well that's that fu*ked then...". No test, no refund.
Indian guy turns up and goes through the usual drill, checks licence, runs through use of communication earpiece etc. Me pretty despondent as I know he will find out shortly that test is not going to happen.
"Right sir, lets just run over your motorcycle quickly..."
Font light - check
Left front indicator - check
Right front indicator - check
Left rear indicator - check
Right rear indicator - check
Horn - check
"right, lets go for your test, remember to stay within the rules..."
"HA!" I thought, "silly bugger forgot to check the brake light!" So too did all the people who saw me swearing and cursing trying to get back light working to no avail. They couldn't believe it either.
Test went without hitch, other than when he told me to pull out into busy traffic using median strip so I did, then a maori fulla decided to cross road in front who I nearly ran over, then I had to drag a boy racer to make it into the lane. Thought I had failed there and then but I think the guy was just happy not to be waiting for a gap in traffic any more.
Oh and one more thing, without a word of a lie he gives me my licence then I go to leave and within 20 seconds of pulling away my chain (or something) comes loose and the bike sounds like the old TF used to on the farm: ki.,CHUNK....ki.,CHUNK....ki.,CHUNK....ki.,CHUNK.. ..
Wouldn't read about it. Had to give it a slap on the tank and say "good girl!"

Lol so the entire test you didn't have a brake light and he didn't notice? :wari:

The way it worked was front-brake light didn't work but back did for some reason. When I did my restricted they checked them both, this time he checked neither. Couldn't believe my luck.
Just had to resort to farming days and use the back brake as much as possible to make light come on at appropriate moments.
Sure I forgot a few times but the fact it was before/during sunrise with lights on may have helped.
As for burning the GN, not sure I can bring myself to part with the old girl now (1987). I feel like I owe her somehow!

lol the same thing happened with bike regarding the front brake light switch dying.
Got it kinda working the night before (going on and off lol). Get to the test. guy asks to see it work, it does, but when I'm done and have been given my licence it's died on me lol :D
Needless to say the bike was flogged off and a bigger toy brought :D
Congrats on passing :)

Shhhhhhh!!! It's not widely known that GN250s are the motorcycle of choice for Ninjas and Chuck Norris.
Sometimes together, but Chuck Norris is always the rider cos Chuck Norris doesn't ride pillion.

Great story, well done for staying cool. The tester must have been very impressed that you used both brakes all of the time rather than just the front.

When I did my restricted he only checked the front brake light, not with the rear brake. Congrats on passing! Entertaining story about it.

When is the GN burning event happening?
Oh please, please, please, please can I come? With my friends? With my camera? I haven't been to a jap bike burn for years.
Bring....it....on!
Mind you. this was funny too...
"Right sir, lets just run over your motorcycle quickly..."
If only.
Gets the trusty blood pressure up that does
My son used my old bomb a few weeks ago to sit his restricted car, and then followed up later that morning with his restricted motorcycle license. My old bomb had just passed a WOF so it was good to go. I had got him to check lights, indicators etc and all seemed good. We also got there early, and were just in time to see the fella before start his test. She checked all lights and then the horn. Opps, have not checked that. Got him to give it a test and no horn :gob: Not even a squeak! I leave him there and race up to the garage to get them to see if they can fix it for me. Guy gets in and it works  Then it doesn't, then it does. Oh joy, an intermittent fault, not something that can be fixed quickly.
Go back to the testing place and he says, I heard the horn, that is good. Got him to test it again and no go. Fuck! Fingers crossed is all I can say :dodge:
His test starts, I am inside with everything crossed and he gets to check the horn and it goes about 10 times :D Off he went, and passed. An hour later he is back down there on his bike, L plate duct taped on and she checks his lights, his rear seems to only want to go sometimes :pinch: Far out! Oh well she says, we will do the test anyway. Off the go, he passed. She did comment that he needed to get it seen to as soon as possible. It is not a filament blown, it is not the brake light sensor, it is a gremlin in there somewhere. Aint electrics fun!
Congratulations on your pass too btw. Dont you dare burn that little gem of a bike, I may well have sold it from new

LOL great story, those gremlins are bastards!
Probably helped actually as you are resigned to the fact you are gonna fail so the test seems like a walk in the park afterwards. The brake light is teasing me now by flickering every time I pull in the front brake lever...

Pass her on to another learner so that she may help out others in their time of need.
*Hugs* and Congrats on coming in to your full stride.
