Today has been a massive day that started out with freezing my ass off over the Haywards hill from Upper Hutt to Porirua to sit (and pass:done:) my full.

That out of the way I dropped off my GT250r at home and spent an hour on the train to go and pick up my new toy from Wellington Motorcycles.

It's terrifyingly pleased to do whatever speed you desire and often gets there before I have finished deciding.

90ks on the clock now with a couple of breaks to let her cool down in between and I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Actually on that note here's a public f*ck you to State Insurance who refused to insure it unless I had an Immobiliser installed. Even the disc lock wasn't enough for them. They were more than happy with my home/garage security but didn't trust me to leave it out on the street....

There are plenty of Bike Insurers that would love to take your business. When I purchased mine none of the issues were even muted . . want a few idea's? I am sure they will come out of the woodwork before you realise it

Thanks, but I wasn't even going to start the thing until I hade insurance so I went with Golightly(Underwritten by Vero) whom Wellington MCs deal with.

Yeah it is definitely something i will be growing into for quite some time.

I'm not the rider who feels like he has to pass everything that ever drove in front of him though and I am happy in my knowledge that it is a powerful bike that needs to be treated with care and caution.

I have to agree. I think immobilisers are a waste of time. Plus they tend to drain your battery. I think for my insurance I have a different excess when I park on the street as oposed to my garage.

We aren't all bastards at State :shifty: I agree a disc lock should help, but we get a lot of thefts of Suzukis hence higher excesses (mine is about $1,000 for the SV650).

Nice bike though. Looks wicked in black, suit the frame.

As slofox says... get a pair of 2bros cans for it. Then buy some earbuddies so you don't go deaf. I like pulling up to larger CC 4 cyl bikes and drowning them out with my little 650, so I can guess what a fully loaded SV1000 sounds like :devil2:

Congrats Lurch , nice bike.Took one for a test ride recently,keep it above 4000rpm and she is smooth.Be careful about cracking the throttle open too soon coming out of corners or she might bite you. As others have said after market cans will make her sound good as the originals are a little wimpy.Good choice of bike.

Congrats on the new bike! Yeah, I insure with kiwibike and they're great!!

Go easy for the first little while... While it's one of the friendlier litre bikes, the SV is still a litre bike! Real easy to get into trouble on!

The testing officer (a Maori chap) was great but suprisingly by the book. We did the whole nine yards EXCEPT he didn't get me to stop and tell him what I did to avoid the hazards in part 3.

Everything else was as per the road code, a warm up ride of a good 5 minutes or more, 3 or 4 sets of intersections where we stopped and talked about the hazards afterwards. 2 u-turns (only one in a narrowish street) and all in all about 30 minutes on the road, no more anyway.

Thanks Pete, I sure am! I took it for a jaunt over the rimutakas and up to gladstone on Sunday and it was an effortless trip both up and down the hill.

I love the fact that I didn't even need to tap the brakes on the descent (although I must admit I wasn't pushing things). I found it easy to push into the corners and very predictable on the exits with good control of the wrist.

I guess theres also that amazing feeling it gives when you just ease the throttle open and it just keeps on giving you more and more, and more. :love:
