Bought some bottles the other day and I noticed they have these white plastic 'things' inside the bottle. Anyone know why??

They're to stir up the sediment.

To make it all creamy and give it a good head just like it's been lovingly poured out of a tap.

Black gold.

And here's me thinking it was for pissed Irishmen so they would not 'over pour' the glass by slowing down the beer as it comes out the bottle.:jerry: Nah not realy. I've never known an Irishman who can not pour a decent head of beer even if paraletic and leggless.

I beleive the widget is in there so you can drink it out of the bottle and it will create a foam/fizz something approaching what you would get if you were drinking it from draught

I don't bother with the bottled Guinness myself.

Just not the same

The bottle said it was brewed in Ireland. Why I brought it. Mind you I think Guinness is overrated.

Try it on tap. It's MUCH nicer... if poured properly it'll be done in two stages and take about 5 minutes. Order and pay then find a seat so they know they can take thier time and do a good job of it. If you don't like it after that you're probably purebred English or have a vagina.

I usually take less time to drink one than it took the barman to pour the bloody thing.

As far as the canned / bottled stuff goes, the cans need to be poured into a handlle, the bottles are supposed to be consumed as they are.

I'll take the bottles over the cans every time. After the tap, of course.

I purchased half a dozen of them a while back and presumed the ball was the Irish equivalent of the tequila worm. I swallowed them all.

A day latter I was shooting them out my arse like a machine gun........

True(ish) story - pictures soon........

Its a nitrogen wedge. To make the head all froffie like.

And actually it should take 3 poors to be done properly. 1 fill up to top. let settle, and again, then 3rd time serve.

WTF? 5 mins? 3 pours?

1 minute and 19 seconds. Two pours.

1) 45 degrees, 2/3 full.
Watch the bubbles flow downwards while it "settles"
2) Push tap forward with glass straight up and down to form a creamy head.
