Hi

Ive heard some stories about KTMs costing alot of money in repairs etc and things going wrong with them, I was just wondering what your reccomendations would be for Buying a KTM SXF250, weather you would buy one or not, what to look out for etc, cheers:2thumbsup

Have read twice in Aust Dirt Bike mag that these require 'more frequent top end freshen ups than jappas.' Unusual for a bike mag to say something like that. I've found in general KTM parts prices often surprisingly cheaper than my previous green bike though.

I was told by two seperate dealers that the main bearings need to be done around 80hrs. that means splitting the cases $$$$$$. maybe the more frequent enginge maintence is due to them having one of the most powerful 250f motors.

Interesting. Fairly sure that ADB mag ref only applied to the 250f so that would fit. Some of them red bikes seem to need bottom end work pretty often as well though, but others seem to have no probs. I wish manufacturers would put oil quantities back up a bit. Huge work load on small amounts of oil.

change it more oftern as the heat kills it/burns it change of oil is cheaper than any rebuild.

i would recommend one if you're gonna race motorcross. The SXF parts seem to be more expensive than the exc parts. I guess it's cos they're less common. The jappas seem to be a bit more "multi use friendly" ie. mine has the most insane gear ratios i've ever found on a bike and is subsequently harder work on a trail than many MX jappas i've ridden. I recon get a yzf250 if you're in that market... just my preference rmzs are cool too and i'm sure the Kxf would be nice too... basically... avoid the KTM !
