I'd agree with that however IME the Hondas don't seem to suit taller riders so well.

Get a VFR400R. Then you can race it in post-classic pre-89 and Formula 3 when you feel ready. :niceone:

what he said vfr nc 30 (can tell it from the earlier models easily because the n30 has single side swingarm and muffler on left...)

i'd say CBR or ZXR, if you get a zxr i got 3 engines in bits anough good bits to make at least 1 good motor... ya can buy the lot off me cheap just taking up garage space man.

ill be ya mechanic if ya got a zxr...

Ah, that's your problem. Two-strokes are meant to give you a hard-on, y'see.

Well two stroke road bikes aren't quite like a dirtbike two stroke so I wouldn't write them off without riding one, especially if you only need it for the track, because the only reason I bought (and would buy again) one of the four strokes you mentioned was because two strokes are too expensive for maintenance. But if you have to choose one of them, have a look at the ZXR and CBR. Everyone seems to think cbr 250s are the best of the bunch, but the zxr isn't loads off and has better ergos IMO. Mine had quite a few kms on it but all I ever did to it was replace a cam chain tensioner (cheap) and it ran awesome.

I think you will discover it costs a lot to run an inline four bike on the track.

Why not a KR150 ? They are plenty quick, cheap to buy, crash, rebuild, and feed, and fooken great fun to ride.

Stories of two stroke un reliability are often un reliable... But I guess if you want a commuter as well a cbrr or zxr 250 would be great. I always liked just getting on and riding without pretty much any maintenance on mine. I doubt you would have any trouble with one, so long as you ride it sensibly... And by that I mean don't be like some turds who rev theirs all the way to the redline in every gear, which confuses me as the power obviously drops after around 16, 000 rpm

Hard to go past a Honda CBR250RR when it comes to performance.

RGV 250
TZR 250
NSR 250
KR1

Just to name a few, If I were to go the 400 way would have to be an NC30 hands down.

Right, my ten cents worth....

Go for the CBR250.... I say that 'cos I'm Honda Biased.

You can race them in a class called Minilite 250 in the Vic Club Winter Series....
I wouldn't actually go for a VFR400 for a track bike... because even though I have a Honda Bias, my pick is you actually get cheaper improvements from the ZXR400's. Pre 89 they actually had "Upside Down" Forks.... Post Classic Junior is the class for them...
These only came on the NC35 version of the VFR400... and they aren't Pre 89, so the only class for them is F3!

To give you an idea, the F3 racers were lapping 5 seconds quicker on the Long Track at Manfeild than the very same bike in Post Classic....
Part of it was he had destroyed his Slick... But other than that, the pace was much hotter in F3.

How about an FXR150 or an RG150? That'll give you access to the development racing classes too, then on to 125 GP bikes etc, and if good enough, further up the racing spectrum

So what do you think you'll get? So far pretty much everyone has said go the cbr250rr, or one of the two strokes. You don't like the 250 two strokes, or the 150's, so that only leaves cbr250rr, right?

Your havin a laugh arent you ?
If you want a light track bike the ONLY way to go is a two stroke 250.
even in resticted jap spec (45bhp) ANY stroker will piss on any 4 stroke 250.

I'm sure some of you will disagree but you'll be talking bollox.

Another thing to consider is availability, if not the cost, of parts. In this regard alone, for the 2 strokes I would think the nod would go to the RGV, as the Aprilia RS250 used a modded version of the RGV engine, and I'm pretty sure the RS250 was still in production until the mid 2000s. Just watch the powervalves.

NSR mc16 & mc18 parts are no longer manufactured by Honda, unsure about mc21 upwards.

KR1 and KR1S are very rare, not sure about parts availability. They were popular in the UK though, so there may be aftermarket support.

TZRs 1KT (2MA) have an fairly good supply of aftermarket parts (ex UK), but genuine parts from Yamaha must be made of gold considering the prices they charge. Plus, the power potential isn't as good as the later model TZRs. The 3MA and 3XV TZRs were grey imports in the UK, so aftermarket support isn't as good.

In general, the wet weight of a 2stroke 250 is equal to, or less than the dry weight of a 250 I4 4stroke, and for a given power will produce more torque, actually making them easier to ride!

Get an RG150. They cost about half that of a CBR250 and they are FUCKING quick around a track because they are so light. And there is a specific class of racing for the 150cc bikes.

A learner lady friend of mine just bought a KR150, and she was just idling it around and I thought it was time she felt this little weapons' power band, so I sent my son out in front in the car on the open road and told her to "just put it in third gear and then hold the throttle wide open pass the lad in the car." Well, I was following on my 650 and I was full tit trying to catch them.. this fucking little KR did 125k before she got it out of 3rd gear, and gave everyone a bad fright, except her of course - she had the biggest grin on her face while we more-experienced bikers were frowning.

Seriously, get a two stroke.

i already race, i listed the bikes above because there the sorts of bike i want i dont like two strokes and i never will i hate everything about them.....

i ride much faster on a four stroke because i love the torque for engine braking and smoth acceleration.

Learn to tame a 2 stroke and it will make you a better rider. It will teach you much, much better throttle control than any of the bikes you have mentioned. Small bore 4 strokes are easy to ride, which usually means average riders go faster on them, but not because the rider is faster, but because the bike is making up for short comings of skill. You think it is a coincidence that the two classes leading to MotoGP (125gp and 250gp) are two strokes, and have stayed that way for so long?

If you want to leave buckets and go racing the best route is either 125GP, but that will take large sums of money in comparison to buckets, and good mechanic, or streetstock where you can either ride on 250 four strokes or 150 two strokes.

Otherwise if you just feel like having a cool bike that you like riding, buy the one you want and go track daying.

unless you already have a 250 then your gaining NOTHING over a 400(exept the cost of a 250 being greater to start with) by using one.
