For those that were not at the VMCC round 2 , you will be un-aware that Nicki had a nasty accident at the hairpin when she fell off the lowside and was struck by another rider who was unable to avoid her on the track.

She is with Frenchy at Palmy Hospital awaiting x-ray results to find the damage.

Nicki means alot to myself and Dianne and its not something we
(or anybody) wants to see happen.

Please post a get well message for her so she knows the support is there for her recovery.

Thanks all and stay safe riding.

Paul & Dianne , Team Shower Buddy / Dunlop Racing.

Aww stink au! Here's hoping it's a case of it looking worse that it actually is and you heal up super quick. And like Gavin said, resist the urge to get back on the bike too soon - better to be properly healed before getting back in the saddle.

I guess that puts Frenchy on cooking duties?

Nicksta you are 1 of the kind and a very well Respected Rider and Person who has got such an AWESOME Personality that so many of us in the Motorcycling scene appreciate. I was absolutely devastated :weep: when I saw your accident and thanks to Helen Pasco who came over to me to keep me under control with the emotion I had when I saw you go down and not moving was very much appreciated. Thanks Heaps Hel.
I went into the Ambulance Bay a couple of times to see you and give you a HUGE Hug and to tell you that my thoughts were with you and I just needed to stay strong for you just like Frenchy was trying to do also.
I will be keeping up to date with your progress and I wish you all the very best with your recovery and will be thinking of you every day.
Takecare my friend and I look forward to seeing you back up on your feet and hopefully back on a bike out there doing what it is you Love and Enjoy 1 day soon in the near future when you have fully recovered. Huge Hugs for both you and Frenchy. Cheers Sue (Skip) VMCC.

I just talked to Frenchy. She's able to move her legs and is awake, smiling and talking although stoned off her face on Morphine. She's got a broken pelvis in 2 places but that's about it. They're looking at moving her back to Taranaki Base hospital today.

Her parents shot down to Palmy last night so she's not by herself. Unfortunately Frenchy had to leave due to a disaster back in New Plymouth.

Shitty deal Nicksta, but I'm confident that you will apply your positive attitude to healing, as you do in your racing. I missed the crash but it does make it harder to process when it's a mate. It was freaky watching you layed out there on the track. I am so glad that the VMCC have upgraded our ambo cover this season. It came in handy. Take it easy for a while and heal well mate.

All the best for the healing proccess Nicky.
I was following you and John into the hairpin when you went down, it was'nt a pretty sight to see, especialy when John had no where to go but over the top. It instantly brought flashbacks and pain of a nasty crash very similar when i went over the top of a bike in a turn at Taupo a few years ago, both of us were badly hurt in that one.
You take it easy, plenty of rest, and heal up quick.

After thinking I could hang onto you at Taupo you were just blitzing me over the weekend. Great riding. I saw Jonno? shaking his fist at someone as I came around and saw 2 bikes down. At the restart I was wondering where 'Tash was (broken down over the back) so was afraid both ladies were out. Magic to hear you're onto crutches at least. We had both guys in our pit off to hospital, ferried Greg home with a broken collarbone and Phil Snowden's not so bad as we all first thought. Anyway heal up quick Nicky. It put a little damper on what for me was the most fun I'd had on any track. The 2 right handers on the extension are mint, just never got the bump right on the long left hand sweeper onto the short track!

Hey Nicksta,

johno does not have internet access at the mo, I have kept him up to date with progress. He has his arm in plaster and is a very sore boy too! No where near as bad off as you though.

He apologises for having a 'vent' on the side of the track immediately after the incident. The second of the day for him so he was rather anti at the entire world! He assures me it was not directed at you as he was so frustrated after having posted some extremely good results from the day before and to only get 2 laps for the entire day did not put him in a good mood.

I think most racers have faced a similar frustration at some time.

No apologies for him though, it really should not have happened!

As far as we could tell there was no choice for Johno when you went down, he had no where to go. He does not feel good at all and has been quite concerned about your welfare, mum and him visited the hospital this morning and missed you by 40 minutes as you had been transferred back home.

He wishes you a speedy recovery and hopes to catch up with you at the track.

Cheers

Hey Nicki,

It was not a good sight to see you lying on the stretcher on the attempted re-start, (Bit odd they sent us out with you and the ambo still on track).

Scott Findlay #277

Yes it was a bit odd Scott....
The official went and told every rider (as you know) that there was going to be a warm up on the 1.4k Circuit and then form up on the grid...
Well, there was protesting from the front rider all the way to the back.
So after a little word to and from race control, the riders were told it would be a 3k warm up, and then form up.... Still not enough... but better than 1.4k!
For what ever reason everybody thought (read the riders on the front row) the official said "Away you go" or something like that.... All I knew is Neil wanted me to give him a push.....
Of course bikes were all cold by then... Riders wanted to get out there, and were frustrated for the race not being called.

May have been Neils own doing as he saw obviously the race was red flagged and pitted (as he was lead rider) before crossing the line for the 4th time.... (66% race distance).
A good call to make I thought, as everybody would have seen Nicksta laying on the track as they turned onto the slip road if he continued around....
Anyhow this set up the two lap dash for cash... and the potential for Neil to run out of fuel for the second time in his postie race! And we put 8 litres in it! (it almost wasn't enough).
Unfortunately for Mossy the bikes were very cold, even after the 2 laps of warm-up... Never got a chance to talk to him after that, and thought it best not to....

At the end of the day, all the confusion has provided some good lessons learnt for the volunteers who organise these events, and the whole situation will be improved on next time.

Sorry to hi-jack your get well thread Nicki. I am glad you are up and about... even if it is limited capacity... and aided.
The garage went very quiet when Paul came down and told us the news that you were involved.... You got a moments silence from us all.

Now, rest up... use the pain as your indicator, and have calcium in as many different forms as you can.
6-8 weeks is the standard sentence from the Orthopedic surgeons... Well managed you can heal faster.
Will be good to see you out there again (in good time).

Cheers

:angry2: NOT ONE OFFICIAL TOLD ANYONE TO GO... :angry2:

Could have well been the case AJ. All I knew was I had to push start the first rider (my job), then jump out of the way before getting run down by 30+ bikes.... The D to carry on riding down the pit lane wasn't mine...... The fact about 10 bikes started up was a bit of a clue things were underway.... So I thought...

After I looked around I was supprised to see the Ambo still there too...

All in the past now.
Sorry Nicksta if it freaked you out.

hey all, thank you soo much for your support and interesting takes on what happened... at the end of the day, its racing.... it could have been worse, but it wasnt and i'm thankful for that.... I do really appreciate all the help and assistance from all the volunteers/marshalls and ambo staff who helped and assisted with my accident :) i must admit i was a little afraid when i heard the bikes going past, hindsight is a great thing.. maybe the slip road should have been used to stop them coming near by mistake....

thank you all for the well wishes..... the house is getting fixed so i'm still in the luxury of a wheelchair access hotel here in new plymouth :D i'm moving on crutches but enjoying the sleep and continuous discovery channel and biker build off mixed with the Orange county choppers :)

Thanks everyone again.... your support really helps......

I tell ya! It freaked me out too, standing there helping the ambos load Nicksta on to the scoop (she was in really good spirits, BTW), to have these bikes come flying past. WTF!!!!
I couldn't believe they had been sent out, glad to hear that they hadn't.

I heard over the PA that the race had been declared, was said more than once too.
Was surprised that they went back out.

Am thinking that a megaphone/loudhaler would be an excellent tool to have for the pitlane marshalls/organisers, a person may think they are heard when shouting but its often not the case when at the other end of a crowd.

There was NOTHING on the radios about declaring it - marshals are in radio contact with race control - so that was the commentators opinion. The commentator can say anything he likes - it doesn't mean that it's what race control and the marshals are doing
Pitlane marshals go through the line of riders and tell each one and get a nod from them. All marshals are in radio contact on pit lane and at the flag points. The riders should stay put until they are waved off. Everyone has learnt something and it was done without pain (the best way). If this discussion goes on any longer we'll have to move it to a new thread!

Hope the house is getting fixed pronto Nicksta.

My off was more related to a piston not returning in the caliper 100% and the throttle problem with cv flatslides being uncontrolable like massive two stroke had lifted my front wheel off the ground before the entrance of the esses. With wheel stopped and tyre cold the combination caught me out.
Dyno kit coming and brakes being rebuilt again.
From the front I heard (way you go) and we were let out. Also the front runners had no idea the red flag was from hairpin accident as we had not been past that area .Got a surprise to see the ambo there .

I think learning would be the way to go and the marshel on the dumy grid should have the start finish line red flag so those with helmets on can see whats happening.

Get well Nicky. We all look forward to your return.

New Kitchen sounds Awesome, and it nice to hear that you are getting well looked after at the Motel your staying in. Dont go over doing it too quickly especially trying to cook in your New kitchen and still being on crutches (sounds 2 awkward). Takecare Nicki and all the best for your healing process and I look forward to seeing you back at the Race Track when your feeling 100%.
