Nice! I didn't see the video on the linked page. Apparently it's an old design kids used to use in the 70s... some spring loaded system.

You could try a trick from the '50's - a fat mudflap just at the muffler outlet.Makes a Tiger Cub sound like a mudflap too close to the muffler.
