I just scored this of TM
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-224376890.htm

I'm picking it up from Hamilton tomorrow and plan to slowly over the weeks turn it into a possible street fighter as the front fairing seems to be buggered.

Plans atm are-
Get rid of fairing
Do complete service (fluids etc)
Re-register
Tyres if need be
Clean up muffler (shorty maybe?)
Chain and sprockets depending on condition

As it was so cheap I've got around $2k to spend over the next month or so as needed,

Open to any input, be it criticizing, tips, warnings, whatever.

Will post picks tomorrow when she's in the shed.

Ride safe

GN will be for sale too.

If it doesn't need re-vinning you may not have to replace or repair the frame that has been ground away.........

Good luck with it..if you know a good bike machanic get them to cheak the alignment of frame suspension wheels etc....doesnt look like alot of work but you can't Take anything for granted either and it will help getting bike back on the road if they come up ture...if revinning is required your need a brake declaration done too where everything is measured by a bike shop

have fun and enjoy the rebuild

If you are going to replace the clip ons with higher bars (guess you would have to replace the top yoke to do that) I'd bee keen on the clip-ons.

The ones one the fizzer we have at the moment may not be original, so my hand hits the tank on full lock (or do they all do that?)

Go for it - strong motors those.

There is a chap selling new cans on Trademe for $275 (I think) and have a look at the goodies this seller has.......

Hi there,

I have got some FZR fairings I took off a road bike to make a race bike. The top fairing is in perfect condtion and the lowers are good and perfectly useable. From memory I have some other bits and pieces tuck away in the shed.

Are you interested in them?

Just got back home an hour ago.
Heres a few pics from tonight.

Damage is as follows

Rear brake lever bent in
Gear lever bent in
Clutch lever bent downwards, doesn't fully disengage clutch
Front fairing scratched up, cracked, and buggered
Muffler scratched, gone through some of the carbon fiber to the packing
Pack rack had taken a little hit to one side
Tank has a few stone chips on RHS
3 mirrors are broken
Left headlight loose, will take fairing of when I have time and see what the story is

She's on charge tonight so will start up tomorrow probably.

It still has VIN plate and I was told it's just deregistered, so will get more info on that on another day.

I know it's going to need work but still stoked for the amount of ks its done and its mechanical condition, for what I paid.

Started her up today, took a few cranks but ran sweet, shame that I couldn't take it for a spin.

Spent the afternoon bending the gear lever and brake lever staight, took front and side fairings of. Had a go at the clutch lever but it snappped before I even applied force to it.

I like the look of no front fairing tbh.

So for now am on the hunt for a clutch lever...

This takes me back a few years. Bought my 88 model in 1989 with just 4000 miles on it, lived in UK then, and had it for 7 great years. Sold it with 95000 miles on it after touring all over Europe, middle east and top of Africa. In all that time i never replaced anything on the engine. My local Yamaha dealer was so impressed they contcted Yamaha UK and put it on a display stand in his shop. Probably the best bike i ever owned all things considered. Unburstable motors, great handling and compfy for a sports bike. Good luck with the rebuild and post a few pics up as she's coming along. Interested to see how the motor has held out over 20 years.

Cheers Tony

http://fzronline.com/forum/index.php

Im in this forum site for fzr owners (and guests)
All the info of mods and swaping other parts is in it.
Wheel conversions,swingarms,shocks,bars,forks and so on.
Carb info and lots more.

Good project.I was looking at it as a possible build myself.

I got my pipe made by cycle works who did a great job including midpipe $350.00

A week back the ignitor box packed a sad, got a 750 one in the mail today. I was told it has a slightly more advanced ignition curve, haven't ridden to see the difference.

I have done the work needed to be re registered, need mirrors so will probably just get a RHS bar end mirror. Thats all thats needed for a warrant, right?

Will give her away to be checked over next week.
Will post a list of all costs later when Im home.

I hate to bring it up now that you have already bought it, but if the Ignitor is from a 2LM FZR750, it will not make good power.

The 2LM model was from Japan and was horsepower limited. One of the mods to restrict power was to change the ignition curve in the Ignitor box (severely retarded, not advanced as mentioned). If the box has 2LM as part of the model info, it will not do that motor justice.

Hope you got a good one.

He may be talking new aftermarket 750 ignitor as I have seen then advertised as being retro fit to the genesis 1000.

Bit of an update
The bike was at the certifiers this week. all sweet but failed me on a fuel leak by the tap, no rear reflector and a little exhaust leak which was fixed with exhaust cement.

I sent the ignitor back to BikeBusters in the waikato as he was happy to swap it, Wayne is his name and is very helpful.

Now I have to wait to get the right ignitor back which should be tuesday, then book a re-check and then get my plate and rego befre the end of the week if all goes well.

Total cost so far about $2500 plus rego, which is about $330 with a plate.
