Note to mods: This is not in racing because it is mainly aimed at non-racers.

I was forced to sit out round two of the Vic Club Winter Series in the weekend.

I was gutted I was not in a fit state to compete myself and thought it would be absolute torture sitting on the bank watching (and smelling - mmm two strokes) the racing.

Over the course of the day I came to realise that a big part of the fun of racing for me is going to the track and talking shit with the local folk and generally soaking in the atmoshere.
Another big part that I normally mostly miss due to being all busy and nervy is the racing itself is an absolute hoot to watch.

The weekend had some spectacular moments to watch. (and some heart wrenching ones - heal well all you broken racers)

SO if you want some great FREE racing action bowl on along to a local (or not so local) racetrack to watch some club racing.*

www.vicclub.co.nz has the winter series dates and info.

Highlights of the racing in the weekend for me:

Watching Glen Skachill and Jamie Gallway fight tooth and nail in every race.
With Glen on an older GSXR600 and Jamie on a lightly modded Triumph 675 they were soo evenly matched they must have traded paint at times!
The skill and racecraft shown by both riders amazed me.

Craig Shirriffs and Hayden Fitzgerald showed everyone how fast they can go, setting long track records in their blazing battles between their flash new Hondas, these guys looked to be both totally tapping their 1000cc superbikes in some kickarse team rivalry.:woohoo:

Drew Mair had a great weekend, he didn't crash!
But he came sooo close with a moment coming out of the left hairpin that saw him out of the seat, smashing his throat on the screen and bending the subframe on landing back on it! What a save!:sweatdrop

Slowpoke, Phil Derby and Johan had a great tussle in day ones LG race, they seemed to spur each other on into some very tidy and entertaining racing.

There were plenty of good battles going on with a good pack in F3/Protwins, including Deano, Newcomer Ashley Payne, former 150 rider Zane Brookes and F3 SV racer Paul Buckley. There were more that I'm not sure about but this group seemed to end up quite close in most of the races and provided some entertaining racing as they got into some real strategic racing over the long races.

Watching what I could of the action between our three 675 riders, Sinfull, Warfy and Keelim with Clive chucked in too (CBR600) was good. This group is going to be interesting to watch over coming rounds.

Ben Oxnam took out an Aprilia RS125 in the streetstock 150 class, most of us 150 racers were very interested to see how it would go. Ben is a very fast rider so it was going to be a fair teast of the bike. Unfortunatley he got a bit of a knock from a passing 125 and scratched the paint of the wee thing a little but otherwise it seemed to go very well for a new bike first time out.
I look foward to seeing how he goes in future rounds.

Mossy1200 had the crash of the day when he binned at splash on the restart of Post Classics, it was a brilliant, clean, textbook lowside dismount with an incredibly loud scraping noise as he washed out on cold tyres.

There were more injuries than normal, 4 people with breaks?
I hope you guys all heal well and are out racing again soon.

I was soo happy to spend the day talking shit and watching racing so thanks guys for putting on a great show and for all you people who are yet to come check out the local racing: Do EEET!

*This does come with a warning: You will probably want to "give it a go" which will most likely be the beginning of a lifelong passion/severe addiction.

a great way to see the action is to be a flag marshall. Its a bit of a chore at times but you are right on top of the action. You do of course have to keep in mind that you have a job to do.So next time you are up there and not racing grab a mate and go and flag marshall!(be prepared for ANY weather!)

Good on ya Malcome, it's so bloody true too !
I was at first, pissed at myself for not having the stamina to go the three days, but that soon passed (after using all my excuses up) when i got up in the stands and watched the rest of the days racing !
Some heart wrenching sights as ya say (heal well guys) but there was no way i was going home to sulk, the racing i saw yesterday from front to back of the fields was bloody brilliant !

Probably is entertaining to watch. But given my limited free time I'd rather be out riding my bike than sitting watching others ride theirs. Haven't been into watching road racing for quite some years. It's all the same after a while.

Watching sex or doing sex?? Always better to be doing than watching.

Yep.
Doing is better.
Yet the porn still sells.
Sex is "all the same after a while." yet that dosn't seem to get boring to most.

Anyway, I'm sure this is a family show so about that racing...

Yep. I been down to Taupo and took the kids for a look-see. It's a great environment for sure, and a cheap days' family entertainment. (well, we stayed for an hour or so..)

Nice! I do enjoy the racing atmosphere myself was gutterd i couldn't make it.

Who won the battle between glen and Jamie in the end?

I'm a good friend of Jamie's haven't seen him since before the race. Btw that 675 has had a shit load of coin put into it.

Next time round there should be a thread listing the KBers that are going to be racing.

It's a great opportunity to meet some of the online personalities in real life.

What did Chris used to say? Something like
"Sex with another person is all very well . . .But it's not like the real thing"

Could be a good idea, it would be a long list.

In Formula one Glen beat Jamie in the first two races and Jamie came out on top in the third. (Battling for 3rd overall behind Crag Shirriffs and Hayden Fitzgerald!)

In formula two Glen won both races, the third was cancelled due to a lack of ambulance.

Fastest laptimes of the day are here. (http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=1189010)
In that regard Jamie was faster than Glen by a gnatscock.
