Isn't that how all this started?

Hmmm...indeed.

I do wonder what would happen if a hunter decided to envoke his rights under section 48 of the Crimes act and defend themselves...

Yeah, a pig hunter armed with rifle, knife & dogs wouldn't be my first choice of someone to mug! :weird:

Yup, one of these guys are going to get shot one day, and then NZ is going to prosecute the hunter that was defending himself for killing a mongrel mob member..

I'm having a little trouble with the '13kms from Wairoa'...that's hardly in the Ureweras. It might be as far as the little 38 shield on the map with the article. Farmland.

im not sure the guy was hunting pigs to start with ? was probably hunting gang members, they just got the better of him this time.
I hope he has better luck next time. Nobody really cares when gangsters go missing in the bush.

I reckon .308's are awesome. Still I wouldn't mind a desert eagle to play with.

Couldn't this be a state sponsored sport?

That, and their unemployed friends are the only ones available for jury duty.

Hey, the locals have got to get some "live prey" practice in from time to time... What's the military name for 'real life maneuvers'? Hunters beware!

I believe the military term for live target practice is "GET SUM!"

Is that like having a sexy missus with a tennis ball in her gob? (Or...)

That reminds me, what's Tama Iti up to these days?

As a parent and grandparent it has always been the rule:

"When children go quiet they are usually up to no good"!

Tama is like rust, it never sleeps, he likes to keep busy for the cause.

So, "where is he"? "What's he up to"? :shifty:

Maybe he's gainfully employed, working for a living, so hasn't got time to be doing stupid things. Maybe..

That is an area I used to hunt regularly, years ago!

Mostly on my own with 2 (bloody good) find bail and hold dogs.

Mostly stuck the pigs, made quite a lot of money packing meat out.

I only ever carried 4 shots in the mag and 1 in my pocket.

.243 BSA Majestic, very smooth quiet bolt action, hair triggered with Lyman scope.

The 5th round went into the chamber with the bolt (safely) closed on it as soon I started hunting.

I could shoot fast and accurate when required and if I ever needed more than 5 rounds I considered it a very bad day!

If I found myself in that guy's situation I don't think the outcome would have been much different than his!

Oh and in those days I could really look after myself too.

It's something you expect in the movies, not hunting around the Ureweras, or anywhere else in New Zealand.

Times have certainly changed!

PC do-gooders have brought New Zealand to this! (IMHO)

Perhaps next time, he'll take a shiny rifle ... with a blocked barrel. And wait for the bang after it gets stolen off him.
He could have trained his dogs a bit better.
