bummer, can't make this one. wifes birthday and DiscoTex is getting married 2 days later.
Are there any plans to run "Track 4" anytime soon? After playing on track 5 I reckon track 4 would be great.
Hope everybody has a great time!

and now for some practical advice.
Take your time to learn the track and adjust to the fact you're not on the road.
Follow the lines riders in G3/4. Yeah they'll be going slowish but they're following the lines that work when you go fast.
Stay warm :)
Then read Twist of the Wwrist II before your next one.

I was just changing the oil and lubing the chain in preparation for the track day and spotted the missing roller by luck. I haven't ridden it since the last track day. I should probably get an o-ring chain this time, I don't think they recommend the heavy duty non-o-ring chain for the sv.

That's good to hear.
I had a wee rear step-out on 7 once or twice last trackday.
Nothing that'd make one bin, really, but it does fuck with one's head a bit. Nicer to be able to just rely on the track to provide traction without having to fiddle about with one's line; the T7 exit is one of the best overtaking places at Taupo.

That was awesome! :D
I got to do 7 sessions, 193.6km. Had to refill the tank once (the sv does about 160km before the fuel warning light comes on).
I've done 2 or 3 wet track days in the past, one in '07 on the bandit and the last one on the sv was a bit wet as well. But this time the track was properly wet all day.
Riding in the wet close to the tyres limits highlighted for me that I really need to work on my body position for right hand corners. T2 in particular going from brakes to on the gas, it felt like I wasn't holding the bike upright enough and it was starting to tuck under. Adjusting the way I was gripping the throttle/brake and how I was hanging off helped, but I'll have to focus on it more in the future. It'll be interesting riding Hampton Down's since it's a clockwise track - more right handers.
Anyway, here's some video. First video is following kiwifruit on the first few laps of session 1, then some passing in session 2.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M8b2gNw-5LE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M8b2gNw-5LE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
The second video is from session 3 where some guys on motards passed me and I tried to keep up, then a bit from session 5 where a gsxr passed me and I pushed it a bit too much, making a few mistakes before giving up trying to chase him (my concentration was going a bit).
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fILLum6-DWE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fILLum6-DWE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I don't think my knees could handle the 3 hour race.
Having wet feet for most of the day was the worst bit.
Re: the patch repairs...
I reckon they're actually even more grippy than the normal track surface (at least in the wet). I noticed small scratch marks on my tyres that I don't remember seeing before, I guess it's from the grit they put in the patches.
They're an improvement over the old patches, but ideally they should have the same level of grip as the rest of the track. Taking the inside line on T7, if I drifted a bit onto the patch, it would grip more and kind of kick/wiggle a bit. Or I noticed once when I went over the patch properly, the rear felt like it started to slip a bit going back onto the normal track surface.
Matt Bleck
25th July 2009, 12:53
Yip i noticed more grip on the repaired repairs too, and then the drop in grip as you went back onto the orginal seal.

My sport/touring tyres worked well on the old cbr and i was able to pick up my pace a little later in the day. I did have two small rear wheel slides due to ruff down changes as i got tired and lost some focus but they woke me up whice was a good thing. Thanks to the guys and girls at motoTT for the good advice and a well run day And the spot prize :woohoo: ill be back for the next dry one :done:
