Hi, New to the game! I have bought a Fxr 150 and was wondering what size slicks you would use and where is the best place to by some and rough cost. Hope you can help? Cheers John

This thread might help.

Basically, unless you want to change wheels you can run up to the 115 section rears. I have yet to see a 120 rear squeezed onto a FXR rim... not sure if it would be a good idea. Personally I would be on the hunt for a wider (3 or 3.5") rear wheel.

Best size to use on standard wheel is front RS125 slicks front and rear , there is no benefit to running a wider 115 wide on the standard FXR wheels

if your cheap-skate like me you'll run "cut slicks" only $400 a set at cycletreads:woohoo:

I run second hand slicks on standard rims they had done one meeting Dunlop's off a rs 125 $150 for the pair some guys run wider rims but when Tim rode my bike from his he didn't think there was much difference . He now runs Bridgestone's soft compound and thinks they give more grip than Dunlop's

Wish I could afford $400 tyres! Hey it was good to see you at Taupo DELLORTO. Cool to see you had at least that RS125 to battle against on your FXR. Was an awesome day but I learnt how damn important it is to not run chopped out touring tyres at a track day.

Oh cheers. Was cool to see a few bucketeers there out on their REAL bikes! I have a video up of the track day now too if anyone wants to watch how slow I am. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UGbk3XI8Bg&feature=channel_page - not really bucket related though, or related to this thread...

There is a definite difference with running the correct size rims, I'd take a punt on saying I was probably one of the first to fit wider wheels to run the RS125 slicks on the correct size rims and it made a big improvement in the way the bike felt

There is no benefit at all in running the 115 rear slick on a standard size FXR rim, you're beter off fitting a front RS slick on the rear if you have stock rims

snap the rg50 spat TZ350 off a few times and was only fixed by putting a frount slick on the rear instead of a rear

I think the rims sizes are 2.15 frount and 2.5 rear on the rg
