Got to leave work a little early yesterday so decided to check out Holeshot and Cyclespot on the shore on the way home. Spotted a hornet outside holeshot walked a little closer to check out which one it was, noticed it had a monster of a back tyre so I guessed that it was the CB900. Got closer still, realised that the bike didnt really look very big at all, in fact... 250cc sized!

Someone had the bright idea of putting a 130 tyre on the front and a 190! on the rear!
Would it even go round corners?? heh (Judging by the squaring off of the back tyre I dont think it ever has).

I thought they had too many blade wheels left over but they're 3 spokes
For rich learners only /blade fronts go for 230 upwards

It fitted? How? Is there that much free space lurking around the back end of a CB250?

yea I think you will find that the hornets come stock with larger rubber - I stated it ages ago, seems strange - But maybe due to a borrowed frame from the 600?

I think its a 120 front and 180 rear, maybe the sizes you saw But I can't look as I'm in class atm sorry.

Maybe that rider will have to learn the hard way? Will be looking at the tyres of the bikes that I'm interested in. However I have not viewed anything like that on a Honda before. Maybe the rider thinks he is Rossi?

Ok I looked it up;

Front 130/70 ZR16
Rear 180/55 ZR17

Didnt think I was going crazy I was going to buy one but changed my mind, although the back tire is real square so It would be an interesting ride, are you sure it was a 140/190 becuase if that was the case then thats just getting silly.

Anyone know why the tires are so large? I'm standing buy the possibility of a borrowed frame? Or am I a complete jackass.

Yes, the Hornet 250 takes a 180 rear tyre, and yes, it does look very silly. There's no advantage to having such a monstrous contact patch when you're only putting out 35bhp or so, and it would certainly affect the cornering adversely.

I think it's just a bit wanky, TBH...

it would also be rather challenging to ride on a really wet day, broad contact and light bike make for a skater.

So why are wide tires so bad? What makes it corner no good?

CB250 Hornet really takes a 180??? seriously?
(This one was 190, I checked).

My god. You guys are right. Same frame/wheels/tyres as the 600.

The 250 Hornet was a Japan only model for a number of years and ran CBR900 wheels when released, hence the 130/70 front. CBR600's never ran this size.
Its the Yamaha guys you have to look out for though....

I meant it had the same frame as the CB600 (and 900?).

The same frame as the 600 Hornet and 900 Hornet? Maybe, but the 250 came out first, Japanese Domestic model.
