View Full Version : Saturday 26/3/05, anyone in Welly fancy a ride?

jrandom
24th March 2005, 15:32
I'll be bimbling down tomorrow arvo and turning up in town at the Wildlife House backpackers tomorrow night (Friday) and I need summat to do on Saturday before I go and get off my face with CSL's group. :drinknsin

(No, I'm not the Mystery Guest. I have no idea who that is. I'm just the Unexpected Guest.)

I fancy a sort of general sightseeing ride, given that I'm not familiar with the Welly region and the weather's probably going to be crap anyway.

Anyone up for anything?

Got the kids for the whole weekend mate. So not me.

I'm sure some other homo will be keen to show you around though.

Mr jrandom. Give me a call on Saturday morning and we'll see what the weather is like. If we have nothing else happening, Mrs H and I would be delighted to meet you for lunch somewhere. A ride out afterwards could also be a possibility.

My phone numbers are attached to my profile.

Travel safely and well...

Good stuff. I have a date for Saturday morning, so a subsequent transition to lunch with the Hitchers would not be out of the question, I'm sure. :)

Travel safely and well...

I will. Believe me, I need some time alone in my helmet. I'm looking forward to it.

I'd be happy to come along. Let us know where and when, and if it's not raining I'll be there.

Oh, I'll also be there on Sat night and I've been told I'm ok, but only in small doses. Your call mate.

Yeah I'm up for a ride some time on saturday afternoon if the weather holds up!

I'll be about and keen for a ride somewhere - just no hanky panky okay. Hopefully my riding gear has dried out by then (rode from Paraparaumu to Welly airport and back home in the shitty rain+traffic tonight! :eek5:)

StoneChucker
25th March 2005, 10:51
How about the Papakura Autobahn, say 1:30pm on Sat?

Oh wait, that'll never work. Well I'd prefer to not have to ride into Wgtn, then back out of Wgtn so maybe the local Wgtn folk can meet at Wgtn Motorcycles, and ride out meeting the Hutt and Kapiti folk at the bottom of the Haywards hill, Hutt side (at that gravel car park just after the lights up the hill). We can then ride to caltex for gas if required, and onwards ho!

*EDIT*
How about leaving WMCC at 1pm, and leaving Haywards carpark at 1:30 - 1:45pm?
*EDIT*

That is, assuming the weather is good. It's just started really pissing down now :angry2: Who knows. I'll go sacrifice a virgin to the rain god. brb

Perhaps you can all practice your breezy upstanding of the mono variety in his absence and show him how it's done on his return.

And why not throw in a fart while you're at it - nothing like a bit of style, eh?

Ahh, but you miss the point. While the ring leader may be a ring, he is still a pretty good ring at that. SO, I plan to learn from his ring-foolery and keep my erections of the vehicular variety on the straight, STILL and narrow ;)

Fair nuff. In that case just be upstanding of the peggles (with twin rubber orbs in full gravitational mode), buttocks firmly thrust into the wind and allow the breath of the intestines to escape in humerous fashion. :shake:

OK, I'm off. Someone post here if a ride manages to get organised for tomorrow, I'll check it in the morning. If it's really pissing down I might just wimp out and hang out somewhere for the day instead, though.

Hope it doesn't rain too hard on the way down. Better make that one extra vestal virgin with fries to go, SC.

I think the days of gender discrimination in the biking world are LONG gone, imho. Either way, I guarantee you'll be welcome, and that someone (me) will ride with you. At my fastest I'm not very fast, and I'm feeling very strange lately, so I'm riding slower than normal. Check on here for times.

Ta Matt :)

Was a pleasant enough ride down, but for one reason and another (mostly just the one) I didn't actually leave until 1620, which meant that I tooled up here on the dot of midnight hoping I didn't have to show any coppers my 6R, and didn't get to sleep until 1am-ish... yawn... and of course the parking lot next door only let me pay up to 6am, so guess who bounced awake at 0605 and had to go down and feed the machine.

But *what* about this weather, eh? Woohoo! :2thumbsup

Oh, yeah. Vital statistics.

Possums swerved around at [eek] kph: 2
*Extremely* narrow licence-threatening escapes from HP just north of Paraparaparathingy: 1
Nadgers frozen off on Desert Rd: 2
Nice HP men who blipped their lights and let me go with the little 'slow down' wave when I crested a rise at 125 or so: 1

SC, ride-wise, WMC a bit later than 1300 would be good for me, maybe 1400 instead?

Glad you got down there in one piece despite the obstacles faced and triumphed over! :Punk: ...and all on a 250cc - you're a keener man than I!

Yes, 'here', in a very specific sense, is the PCs with broadband at the hostel in Tory St. There wasn't much traffic, I was playing it a bit risky with the speeds along SH1, and I didn't really stop for much, so I guess that's just how long it takes...

and all on a 250cc...

But a very *nice* 250cc.

jrandom can't make it till 14:00. Since he's an ORKlander, we should probably wait for him ;) So...

I reckon to conserve time we should be gassed up at the start?
Leave WMCC at 14:00
Leave Haywards 14:35
With our leaving time, it might be a ride over the hill, and maybe to Martinborough. We, or at least I wouldn't be able to go any further.
I have to be home by 17:00. I'm going out for dinner. Come to think of it, don't forget you are too jrandom :Punk: :drinknsin

I went for a recce ride and my apologies guys, I'm already soaked and frozen so I'm back home now sulking with my SV1000. Had a few nice slides too on the way, so take it easy, theres heaps of grease on the roads.

So jrandom departed this fairest of cities at about 2:00pm -- escorted by some dude on a blue bike of indeterminate parentage. Hopefully the liver (and brain) didn't take too much punishment last night...

I noted that my decision to pike yesterday afternoon did wonders for the weather. I hope you enjoyed it!

We hope you enjoyed your short stay, and look forward to hosting you back this way again soon.

I was good to catch up with some old and new faces outside WMC yesterday afternoon.

... some dude on a blue bike of indeterminate parentage.

That, my good sir, would be badlieutenant and his slightly senile (although he would say 'classic') VFR750, who (unlike me) had good and proper reasons to be in the capital over Easter weekend. We missed hooking up for Friday's ride down, but figured we might as well be bored together on the way back up.

I should note that 700km of SH1 while hung over and sleep-deprived is *not* one of life's more enjoyable and stimulating motorcycling experiences.

Hopefully the liver (and brain) didn't take too much punishment last night...

I fear the usual words along the lines of "woe is me, I shall never touch another drop" were muttered around sunrise, however the mettle of my native constitution, a brisk walk and a nice hot shower put paid to all that nonsense, and I was ready for French toast with bacon and banana by 12.

A certain diminutive KBer did not fare so well, however. Muahahahaha! Gentle Readers, I will limit myself to saying that at about 11am on Sunday morning, I truly regretted not having my digital camera.

I will also refrain, at this point, from making any haggis or porridge jokes.

I can concur on that one - but if you stay off SH1 it is much pleasanter, even in a sleep deprived state.

Ahem.
Mr. Bad Lieutenant would like it to be know that his motorcycle is a 'classic'; venerable, possibly, finely aged like a fine French wine, without doubt... but senile....? At this point in our conversation he became quite choked up until I promised to sort you out, nasty boy. Consider yourself stared upon with steely eyes of the most gimlet-like variety that Scotland can manufacture. And we pride ourselves upon those, so there.
Oh, and he said (and I quote) "Senile might more accurately describe the type of person that does 150k on the Northern motorway while blocking insane women from Ponsonby in their flash Holdens from overtaking and *potentially* soaking up any H.P. attention hitherto excitedly focussed upon said senile person. For example."

I was poisoned by some Troll from Orcland, I'll have you know. "Here, drink this" he said... " it'll do you good" he said... "me granny swears by it" he said. Pshaw! If only I'd stuck to the good old Uisghe Beatha, I'd of been right.
If he darkens me portal again, I'll be setting ma wee Haggis on him... a vicious bite, she has... or better yet, forced porridge eating... mwa ha ha hahahahahahah
