Yep, my bike lives outside.
I got a Rjay's cover for it. Seems to do the job OK (clips underneath, which is a bit of a pain in the dark though.

Mine lives on the front porch. it's under a roof but no walls. The cold and the wet still gets it but it's relatively happy.

Some in, some out under cover, some just out. Covers are good if you get a decent one, else theres no point

Watch your insurance if you don't park it in a locked garage. In my case, the excess goes up a lot.

If you're in an environment that gets damp the bike covers are a disaster. The bikes tend to rust and corrode. You're better off with a cover that covers the top only. eg under an awning etc. Or leaving it exposed to the elements.

Plus 1, but if it weren't for my Wife the bike would live in the bedroom.

As it should be! Same with me,
here's a hint, if you run out of room in the garage, keep the bike in the house! All the best people do..

As above, more civilised now and got a garage.
I use to store it in the lounge, It always was a great talking point when the land lord came around too :)

f your bike's made of decent materials, it'll be fine. I ride mine in all conditions, and if it's raining at work, it gets rained on. And dusty.
I do have a cover, and toyed with taking it to work and putting it under my desk to use when it's raining, but couldn't be bothered. No signs of rusting or corrosion. There is possibly some fading of the instruments and needles from the sun, so I try and park in the shade. The UV probably rots the plastics, paint and seat cover too.
Be careful with using a cover: they can cause your paintwork to get rubbed a fair bit with the wind flapping them around, especially if there's any dust on the bike before the cover goes on.

Yep, I've got a San Remo cover for mine.
These are the same units as the RJays mentioned earlier in the thread. "RJays" don't make bike covers any more.
Despite their limitations, the San Remo covers are the best commercially available option. They last about a year before they succumb to the elements.

Indeed. Mrs H's Bandit, and my previously owned FJR, wears a nappy on its tail section under the cover for exactly this reason.
Also where we live we reverse our bikes into their designated spots to stop them blowing over in a reasonable breeze. Covers act like a big sail, so be wary about that too.

I might just get the gorse out of my pockets and get one of those large garden sheds with the doors at the end for my bike, then I can keep our gear in there as well. Also when I upgrade I know it will fit!! Thanks

Me and Mr. EobE's bikes live outside as we don't have a garage or carport, and the living room is a bit small for one 250, let alone 2!
It's not ideal, no, but as they get used every day for commuting and spend all day outside our various workplaces they were never going to keep pristine and lovely...

Yeah, unfortunately my bike needs to live outside, and yes I have a cover for it - think I purchased it from repco or super cheap. Make sure it fits your bike. A friend got a cover and it doesn't fit and blows off all the time. My even has a clip underneath the body to keep it securely on. And yes, it is water proof too. I do park the bike on the sheltered side of the house, and I have not ever noticed any damage on the fairings etc. due to wind.

This is what I do - there is now more room in the garage because the car is in the driveway and the scooter is in the garage. The scooter also has insurance and the car doesn't. This makes sense when you consider that over the last 10 months I have driven 600kms in the car and ridden 20,000 on the scooter. The car is worth about 1/4 (at best) of what I paid for the scooter.
Fuck the car - the scooter lives in the garage! Dry seat FTW! :niceone:

Locked and alarmed double garage. With LPG Heater when I'm in there.
Cars live on the driveway, like they should.

Ours usually live in the garage - much safer. Unfortunately the garage door is broken and we're waiting on the land lord to fix it (double height, motorised warehouse job) so the boys are outside under covers. Maybe its not unfortunately, as we don't own a car and would be in trouble if the bikes were stuck inside.

Mines locked in the shed but I'd park it in the house if I could. The house is a couple of feet off the ground so there's multiple steps everywhere which pretty much precludes that as an option.
Some bikes have superior finish and handle being parked outside better than others. If you do park your bike outside over winter you'll soon learn whether yours is one of them...

Another option is a portable garage. have a look at 'Shelter Station' website. They have a product there called the 'Ute' which I have purchased for my bike. Delivered around the country. Can be secured to concrete or grass.

Jeepers, that is pretty much what I paid for my FXR!
My FXR150 commuter lives outside and has been covered in ice a fair bit lately! This bike has no choke, no electric start (kick only), the airbox is not connected and it has a CB250 carb on it. It can be a bitch to start in the morning but I am NEVER cold by the time I am on my way!!!

Mothers car sits outside, my bike sits in the garage, along with my pushbike, various shitboxes on two wheels, couches etc...

Inside the garage, under a blankey, plugged into trickle charge.
All the cars outside.
If there was too much shit in my garage and not enough room for the bike..........i'd biff other toys out first.
My babies don't even live outside at work. There should be a society for the prevention of cruelty to motorcycles......

I keep my vehicles in a heated garage. Cover outside or not they will deteriorate faster.

My bike lives in the Dog kennel, along with our dogs,it's a very big kennel.
I have been forced to leave it outside with a cover on it in the past, but didn't like the condensation build up much.
It's not good on alloy wheels if you leave it a week or so and forget about it.
Still, keeps Autosol in bussiness I guess.

Insurance is an issue however the main thing for me is that cars are better designed to cope with the extreme elements at this time of the year.

Yep, I don’t have a garage so I brought a fairly expensive cover which worked well. Problem was I couldn’t put the cover on straight after riding as it would melt on the exhaust etc. Then one day I somehow discovered that my flatmates BBQ cover fitted over the bike and cleared the engine and exhaust (would sit over but not touch) giving instant protection from the rain with no added melting. Next thing I know I have brought a 20.00 BBQ cover and shelved the 100.00 bike cover.
It helps that I ride a POS though.. Im holding off upgrading to a nicer bike until I have a garage for it.. P.s. I get heaps of grief about the BBQ cover… But it works.
