View Full Version : VMAX acceleration

This month NZ Autocar has tested the new Yamaha VMAX, and it has become the fastest accelerating bike they have ever tested.

(pointless but fun)
0-100kph: 2.88s (previous record 3.34s by 2008 Hayabusa)
80-120kph (effectively time to pass): 1.09s (previous 1.13s by K9 GSXR1000)

no 400m test.

Funnily enough the GSX1400 is not listed in their top10 for 0-100kph

They also did a 100kph to 0 stop test on the lastest CBR600rr (with ABS) - obtained 41.66m: Makes an interesting comparison to a std Mazda 3 hatch ~32m...
Although not unexpected (2 contact patches vs 4), many bikers in my experience live under the illusion they can outbrake a car.

I recall someone on here reckoning they could go from 60kph to zero in 2 metres on a 250. I don't think a brick wall was involved either.

Yeah, it was a concrete wall.

I did think that was a shame, about the brick wall

I think the gsx1400 wasn't in the top ten because it is an overweight under powered wheeled boat. Sexy looking toy though

Reckon the VMax's acceleration would be limited by tyre traction (even the 200/50 !!) more than anything else.

What a bugger that it takes a car mag to give us performance times of a bike lol.
Wonder if the ABS models takes longer to brake than the non ABS ones, might have to buy the mag and have a geeze.

So does that take half the fuel tank or most of the fuel tank to get to that speed?

Well, they didn't test one then did they? :)
A standard GSX1400 with yoshi exhaust system did 0-100kmh in 2.6 seconds, faster than any production vehicle of any sort in the world.

I have a video clip of quite a few bikes and cars for comparo and a GSX1400 with a full Yoshi exhaust system does the 0-100kmh in exactly 2.57 seconds.

They are no slouch with heaps of low end torque. And yes, the new Bugaati Veyron is the only production vehicle to crack the GSX1400 0-100kmh time.

The GSX1400 is based on the 80's superbikes. It will always look good and is reaching cult status.

Did I tell you I like them???..... :)

This has got to be the worst vid on Youtube but it's good enough proof for me, GSX1400 0-100k 2.57 seconds, v-max eater.

There is a better vid somewhere on there but I couldn't find it just now.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mhRs2os1psQ&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mhRs2os1psQ&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And that's without the red bull cans on the suspension that mine is equipped with, I'll take another second of the time for them :first:

In a recent interview in the US, Chuck Norris was asked which bike he rode,Perhaps a new V-Max......

Chuck: I don't ride motorcycles, I don't need to, I can run faster than any bike 0-100 whilst simultaniously performing Karate chops and Kicks, however, if you were to ask me which motorcycle best captures the chuck Norris spirit, I'd have to say the GSX1400, It's one mean mudder fugger, packs a bigger punch than any other bike and is scientifically proven by the 'Chuck Norris institute for bullshit evasion' to be the fastest production motorcycle from 0- 100k on planet Earth. Any one that disagrees with me is going down man!

Can't argue with the man :D

One (1) contact patch versus four. (Effectively).

Wonder if the ABS models takes longer to brake than the non ABS ones, might have to buy the mag and have a geeze.
From the reviews I'd read of the new E-DCBS/ABS system, the racers could brake quicker overall without ABS, but for a panic stop on wet roads, it was no contest: ABS FTW!

I thought one of the big kwakas was the fastest production bike, aparently it has so many Z's, X's and R's in the model ID that it needs a second bike just to fit them all.
But its a good thing I don't know anything because I'm a deluded biker.

Beats me too Pedro...and I'm stumped .

More weight plus just only just over half the HP of a Hayabusa or a ZZR14 equals ...>>>>> quicker ??

Think someones taking the piss .....that's cool , I had a squirt on a 1400 Suzuki a couple of weeks ago, nice bike and quite comfortable but not for me. ( Yet )

The area below the torque curve on a dyno may help explain, also the gearing helps and a relative lack of wheelspin and wheelie may be a factor.... :msn-wink:

They can't have set it up for you properly otherwise you would have ridden out on it :) :bleh:

It's all about torque low down, a lot of forward weight to keep the front down and a lot of weight full stop to let the back wheel get maximum grip.
The result..... velcro on your leathers :)

The Rocket 3 has been tested at 2.8 to 100 kmh. Whether that's true or not, they're bloody savage machines. Over 100 kmh the barn-like aerodynamics kick in though.

I don't think he has ridden a properly set up one on a decent bit of road yet otherwise that comment wouldn't have appeared in this thread.
