View Full Version : Spraypainter wanted in auckland

Hey guys i figure there are some panel and paint guys on here... not after a bargain of a deal etc just after a decent quote to paint my car, a shop today told me 3 grand + paint, this was with me having done all the prep work... bogged... primered and sanded ready to spray...
i would like to do the full body on it, but at minimum the body, doors... boot...bonnet and a small amount of the inside (where door goes into main body, a bit of the dashboard... not fussed about inside the boot...
as i say i can do all the prep then all i need is it sprayed, anybody able to give me a rough quote?
prefer auckland because i dont want to be trailering the shell around the entire north island...
Cheers: Skid...
as you can see its not exactly a large car, i thought 3k was extremely excessive given prep work would be done...

If you are going to to do all the prep why don't ya paint it yourself?.
3k gives you alot of paint to play with if ya fuck up the 1st,2nd,3rd time.....

problem is with spray painting is they will have to do all the prep and filling again. Cos if they dont and it comes out crap, you will blame them for the poor finish over your poor prep.
Leave it to the experts. If you can prep it to their standards, like Nallac says do it yourself, get the experience and have some dosh left over . aye
But why would you on a piece of crap BMC 1100

yes as Doc says, they most likely don't want you to do prep as theres no recourse for them if theres come back due to poor prep or miss match in
paints from primer to top coat.....

For the money they are asking, do it yourself....as i've said 3k+ gives ya alot of paint to play with especially since you can use the old mans gear.
etc etc

I can shoot it for a lot less. Thinking it might be a bit much for the .45 but maybe the 7mm.08 should be fine.

You are fuckin kidding aren't you? Why would you turbo a bowl of porridge? Don't get me wrong, I have owned one of these[They handle like crap when they are new!] and several mini's[Which do handle] But a pumpkin? You know you will have to change the suspension and brakes? And then when you have finished it will be worth fuck all. Seriously, get an old MG GTB or Spitfire or something that will at least look cool! Also, wouldn't you be doing the paint job last? ie After you have done your transplant?*shudder*
BTW, I wasted a lot of money and time hotting up an old Vanguard when I was your age. That's how I know. Wish I'd bought a bike instead.

Suspension is fine, has disc brakes with plenty of stopping power, but may upgrade to something a bit better, go with some different calipers braided lines and a decent brake booster and im getting some mini lite wheels for it and im going to widen the wheelbase a tad... change the steering wheel, possibly a roll cage also.
its just a playtoy really...
the motor side of it is getting sorted at the moment, a guy in christchurch is making a subframe for me to run a honda b16a in it, with custom drive shafts to allow the honda motor etc... that should be up here in 4-6 weeks
money is an object to a point, ie im not spending 3k on a paintjob...
resale value is not of concern to me whatsoever...
what looks cool to you may not be the same as me, the idea is a bit of fun and a challenge to drive, a standard family commuter car bores me, i find the morris a good challenge to drive like a bike, i have owned a couple of classic mini's prior to this and this time wanted something a bit more unique...
i expect to put about 6k total into this car, probably another 2k if i add a turbo also but i'm not sure how viable this is until i have the motor in the car and can see how much clearance i have etc etc
i already have 3 bikes... i like my classic cars as well, my job pays well enough.... and you only live once... so why the hell not?

NO the suspension is not fine and NO it doesn't have plenty of stopping power! Sorry mate, they pretty much suck in that department. Have you seen Basil Fawlty beating his with a branch? Get your self a branch!
Don't mean to be hacking on you but mate, sounds like a really bad idea!
You should keep it std, at least that way you will be able to sell it.

Why would i sell it after all the work im putting in? as i said resale is not a fator, i just like to tinker on projects...
it's been a dream of mine and i dont know how much time i have left due to medical problems which i would rather not divulge to all on here...
classic cars are rubbish, they are slow... unreliable... and most handle like a bus... especially this one...
thats why i like them...
i can't stand something i cant tinker with just for the sake of it, everyday after school and weekends as a kid i was out car racing with dad or under one of his cars with him, building race cars etc etc....
once ya get a taste of that its a life long addiction....

3k a week ago woulda bought a 94 2.0l ,non turb, auto, silvia.
It was a car totally begging to be hot rodded.
Rip out the factory engine--in with a 2.0l turb and manual box. Throw some decent suspenders at it. at 3 k and adding the cost of conversion which basicly is a plug n play deal still woulda had change from 6k.
selling off the factory bits given they are fairly common probably woulda brought that sum back a fair bit too.
6k for a turbed manual silvia well done is doable so no loss of funds.
I'd suggest 3k is a fair price given they need to reprep the thing and I suspect itll be an full in and out job not just exterior.

That's a very good point actually.
My TE Primera owes me $2400 after buying it, doing all the CV's and clutch, Brand new 16s with sticky Bridgestones.
Reliable, comfortable, not toooooo slow and handles like a go-kart.

Problem is it's a shit box land crab and those are a little bit more modern than that. Ill just keep my SS-VE with a few mods and 240kw at the wheels for know its fast enough for now.
Have you thought about how good a land crab will handle with all that power with that lovely hydro suspension in the rear mmmmmm proberly real fast in a straight line but completely fucked when it come to a corner.

Pulled out of buying the BMC today because everybody i knew was rubbishing it so much, that and other reasons i dont need to tell you lot...
what "alternative" to a boy raer type cars would you stonk a honda motor with a turbo in then? the idea is to build a sleeper... something people expect to be slow, then it just absolutely fucks off.
i may do it to a normal mini down the line, so it will still go around corners.
at the end of the day at this stage, i have a good reliable runabout car, and 3 bikes... can only use one at a time and cars take up alot of room, it just wasnt worth pissing off the flatmates over because they were shitty about me having 2 cars...

oh wow.... a hilux.... so my idea was rubbish? but putting a grunty motor in a UTE is a good idea?
you cant even poot boot to the floor in a stock hilux... the moment you cut the rear loose you are in the shit in a ute. (compared to something of similar power, for those who were wanting to wank on about holden and ford ute races)

If you are going to have a comeback
A) make it better than what was said to you
B) dont try use something along the same lines when the best use of the afore mentioned has already been used.
C) blow my goats.
I would have a D but i think it would stretch your knowledge of the alphabet.
1) Never insult people using words they cannot understand....
Since you only know ABC i hope somebody else in your "home" (lol) walks past and can read this to you so you understand it....
if not i have breached number 1 which would have been D, but it can't be, the reasons for which are explained earlier in this document.

You could then use it as a race bike van at some point down the track.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
DaKine is an outdoor apparel company specializing in sportswear and sports equipment for alternative sports. The name of the company comes from the Hawaiian Pidgin word "da kine" (derived from "the kind" or "the best").
[edit] History
Rob Kaplan began manufacturing the DaKine Leash in Haiku, Maui , Hawaii in 1979. The DaKine surf leash is designed to withstand the rigorous Hawaiian conditions and opened up previously unsurfed breaks around the world. By 1980, professional windsurfers asked Kaplan to help build footstraps for their new wave boards. The company later developed the first adjustable footstrap, seat harness and waist harness. Their creation of the coffin board bag made travel easier for athletes.
By 1986, DaKine opened its North American office, manufacturing facility, and warehouse in Hood River, Oregon. Hood River was chosen because it is strategically positioned at the base of Mount Hood where summer snowboard and ski camps are the gathering places for athletes. Later in 1989 DaKine first entered the snowboard market with snowboard accessories, snowboard bags and gear bags.
During the 1990s, DaKine entered the winter glove business with three models. DaKine also introduced the Heli Pack, which created a new category of backcountry skiing and backcountry snowboarding day packs, the minimalist technical pack. In 1999, DaKine developed the Park Pack, its first skateboard specific backpack. The Park Pack's innovation and durability proved to be a valuable combination that leads to other models such as the Mike V. and Machnau packs.
Diversifying in 2001, DaKine developed its first line of kiteboard specific harnesses & accessories. The Fusion Harness quickly became DaKine's best selling harness surpassing all other models in the line.
DaKine was acquired by Australian boardsports company Billabong in 2008.
