Xl700v transalp

Hey all, is there anyone out there with a 700 Transalp?? If sowhat are yr thoughts on the bike? I know they might be heading to soft end of Adv bikes but would be interesting to hear any comments. Pic of a nice Tranny well setup with crasbars, bash plate, Tall screen, racks & after market pipe.

Might make a good replacement for the KLR

Hey, how have you been?......in answer to the above, both road & more HP. took one for a ride yesterday & thought it might be a nice change. Have always been a Honda man, just did not want to spent the $$ on a new Transalp back when I brought the KLR. Also rode a XT660R but feel it has gone to naked & bare, and it still weighs a much as the KLR
will be ashame to let the KLR go ( thats if I do!!) as it is well sorted now with bash plate, crash bars, racks etc, scotoiler & have just fitted heated grips

Gotta agreee with ya there on the XT. What about an older AT? or I guess you want something you don't have to work on as much ( no offence intended at all to AT riders).

I really like the Transalp but would def love a new Tenere. What about a Tiger? They seem to go for a ok amount of money & the motors apparently are legendary.

Depends what you want. I rode 9000km on the 650 TA in Argentina with two 700 TAs. In my opinion, my Pegaso Trail is superior to both on all counts in gravel, is as good on seal, and in NZ is a lot cheaper than the 700. The Peg has the same motor as the XT660, but is more road oriented (but no where near the XT660X), but less so than the 700TA. The XT660R is more off-road oriented. The KLR (I haven't ridden one) will be lighter than the 700TA, will have noticeably less horses (which only matters on the road) and will be better off the seal. You'd really have to do lots of road miles to make the change worth it and (unless you're often two-up) the Peg is better.

Have you considered a Wee-strom? This is a much better road bike, light trail-able and much cheaper. There's an earlier thread on this.

Have a look at this Tiger - I can THOROUGHLY recommend it (yes OK its mine!!)

I had the earlier Transalp with the 21 inch front - the Tiger is a bit heavier certainly but hugely more capable on the road and especially two up or if riding in the company of sport bike riding mates!!
In the tight stuff the Transalp and the Tiger are easier to ride than the V Strom 1000 (don't know about the 650) as they pull away easier from very slow in tricky situations whereas the strom is a bit tall geared and lack a bit of very low end torque. The Tiger was just as easy to ride on the gravel - but on really heavy loose gravel the smaller bike is easier. Both turn better on the gravel than the Strom
