Meh. With the notable exception of Isaac Ross, the entire All Black forward pack was missing in action.
On the strength of the last three games, I'd say - going into the Tri-Nations - we're fucked.

We were average tonight. Didnt Ross step up however. Comments made comparing him to an Ali Williams were certainly valid. His open running was much needed go forward.
I still dont think we'll be that far off the pace in the TriNations. Aussie are just as crap as us in my opinion. No use comparing our scores against Italy with Australia's either.
Then again it could do us some good to have our ass handed to us for once. Jesus Christ McAllister had another average outing. For all the Bullshit rules the NZRU come out with, the prerequsit (sp?) to have played in the previous years NPC or Super 14 seems to be one of the better. He clearly isn't at International level. Mind you goin on tonights showing neither is Toeava (that boy couldnt catch a cold) Masaga was average aswell. Mealamu and Ross were the only standouts in the forward pack.

2 differnt typs of games..., one you have to think for yourself... the other you have to try and remember to run forwards.....

Give the Italians some credit huh. They have a good forward pack, a well organised defense that can tackle pretty well and a game plan that involved kicking the ball into the ABs 22 whenever the got the opportunity.

Italy are a very weak side and you would have expected and hoped for a 30-50 point margin.
The ABs will raise their game against better oposition.

.As for Henrys "dumb" comment at 1/2 time:lol:reminds me of a bad workman blames his tools.
The difference is that real tools are inanimate objects that are controlled by the workman's hands. These 'tools' dressed in black are supposed to be able to think and excecute for themselves. They can be drilled and given stategies for weeks on end but when they run on to the park it is their responsibility to execute.

I think he meant "tool" in the colloquial sense. As in "What a tool"

Probably because it's the only winter sport that we can take on the world at (or the few nations that actually play rugby anyway).

I still don't agree with cameras in the dressing room. I have no time for Henry but that shot of Henry giving one of his tirades to the his team need not have been broadcast.
As for that eye gouging incident the captain should be sent home.
Still a win is a win.
Unless Henry bucks up his coaching skills it's likely going to be the last one for a long time.

I don't think Aussy did any better against the Italians, about the same margin
The Italians played very strong in defense and played the ball into the All Blacks territory a lot.
The All Blacks don't seem able to get the ball into the opposition territory, or find the gaps behind the defensive line, same problem against the french.
But I guess a win is a win

Jesus Christ McAllister had another average outing.
To be fair to him, Leonard inside him was off the pace with his pass which coupled with a pretty lax interpretation of the offside line by the ref gave him next to no time to do anything. That said, he's really not a stand-off and should replace Nonu at inside centre...

Italy are not the easy beats they once were, not many so called top coaches have recognised that, they were improving when Kirwan coached them then he stuffed it a bit,now under Mallet they will be a pretty good team, and have ability to upset other fancied teams,Aussie beat them by 20 points much like NZ.
Sure we have a few injured, the thing blatently obvious was lack of support when Muliaina(sp)ran he had no loosie with him,McCaw was a major loss at times. Some players are showing super 14 is their go,maybe minor tests as well, but the bigger matchs are lacking the basic task of thinking on feet.
Who cares if we loose a test, build the team for world cup, loose the odd match who cares as long as the team can perform come cup time, mind you that has been my idea since 1987.

You saw me, I was playing No8 for awhile then Ted saw we weren't doing to well and didn't want to ruin my awesome rep so moved me to left-right out:innocent:
Im sorry, I take pride in the team that i support. I dont care how we play, the AB's will always have my support.
I think we need the critics of the AB's to quieten down a bit, supporting means through thick and thin in my book. All that aside, we were quite horrible

True. Would you agree then that after Leonard's poor showing (admittedly after coming back from injury) and Ellis not playing well either, that Weepu would be our best halfback?
Half McAllisters problem is he isnt a stand-off, but i wouldnt say he is better than Nonu for the game that Wayne Smith is trying to play either. The other half of his problem is he went to Westlake, a school for Homosexuals.

Geez all the AB haters, give Italy some credit - they have gotten better, still not good enough to beat a poor performing NZ team but they are better.
We beat the Italians but in typical NZ fashion we cry coz we didnt thrash them.
Tri-nations will be complete different game than the French and Italy tests, well be back to the S14 style plays that we have become acustomed to which brings in the high scoring results. I reckon well still win the Tri-nations but even then alot of haters will say we didnt win it by enough. AB's are held so high in public opinion that anything short of excellence is rated as poor.
Im an AB fan willing to go through the wins and the losses.

I support any NZ team(except yachting bloody toffs)was impressed when the All Whites nearly beat Italy in soccer, imagine how the Italians felt, similar to us with rugby.
End of the day if we lose who cares, another day tomorrow. If we lose world cup final or semi too bad, annoying but not life threatening.Much like say Brazil or Germany,France,Italy in soccer they may not be world cup holders but constantly at the top, same as NZ rugby, haven't won cup but regularly in top 3 in world, annoying thing is when England referred as world champs or worlds best after they win the cup, then lose a series to NZ,SA or Aussie.

I'd still play Leonard even rusty like he was, he's probably better than Cowan or Weepu. Plus the fact that Weepu can cover 9 and 10 means I'd make him a bench / "impact" player...same as I would for Nonu because he can cover both centres and wing...

When Piri came on the passing was a lot snappier.
I am worried that we haven't got a decent first five at the mo though.
Bring on the Tri Nations.
