Not too sure about Auckland, but Bayflight in Tauranga is good.

There will be someone out at Ardmore who will be able to help you, Finn

A friend of mine went through uni in Palmerston North (fixed wing) and then on to Masterton (chopper), then off to Aust. to pay back loans.

Depends on how serious you are, I guess...

An aviation college is probably the easiest way to a Commercial Pilot's Licence - and you can get it on a student loan. Plus you get a good into the industry.

But to my eye, the best option is a syndicate partnerhsip in your own R-22. Cheapest way to build airtime

Not sure of the name of the helicopter outfit at Ardmore, but North Shore Helicopters has a good reputation and aircraft availability. They have Robinson R22's which is probably more your thing Finn.

They also run theory courses at $10 a night, twice a week, to get the PPL papers out of the way, it's also probably closer to you than Ardmore, and more fun to ride out to on the bike.

If you want to save some money buy a share in a syndicate. I went through to commercial for half the cost of going through a school. PPL was even less I think. Sold my share for what I paid for it so overall it worked out pretty good. Aircraft availability was also better, as long as there wasnt too many people training. Learn on a Robby. if you can fly a Robby you can fly anything. Robbys get a bad rap because of all the crashes but they're not that bad. They are great to fly, go places nothing else will and they hang together.

Hi Aaron Ardmore flying school do Helicopter training, plus they also do all the theory courses. but if you want to really learn then I suggest that you move to Taupo and learn around the mountains of the central plateau with Helisika, as anyone can handle a chopper in sea level conditions but flying to and from moderate to high altitude sites especially in hot summer conditions in and around mountainous terrain separates the men from the boys.
