...says keep the throttle steady and stay on the gas! this book also talks about the need to overcome your natural SR's survival reactions.
Those videos are so cool and i drop my hat to all those guys they are all true gods of the sport.

Seriously ive only had 2 near highsides both at Manfield one on a damp track coming out of higgins and one on an oil patch coming out of toyota, lets face it, your either flying over the windscreen or yourve somehow recovered even before you know whats happened, be amazing to have the reflex and conditioned reaction to actually be able to deal with it at the time.

Cheers.

Actually I don't think it's that big a deal mate. If you're winding on the gas smoothly you'll probably have saved it before you react. Works for me :)

The excercise where you are very precice about your throttle movements really helped me overcome the "snap the throttle shut" reaction. Really helps me sling-shot out of turn 1 at Taupo too as I just keep winding on smoothly from the apex with no fear of the back stepping out.

This is 100% correct my ginger friend! I know in the short time I have been racing my reactions have improved enormously....and by that I mean I react immediately by 'not reacting!' This has saved my skin on a number of occasions. Its not so much skill as it is 'mental fortitude' in my experience. I had a big moment at Taupo around the left hand sweeper (turn 8) at about 190kph where both wheels were sliding towards the outside of the track while my left knee was still on the deck...I remember thinking...."don't touch anything....don't change a thing" and I managed to ride it out.....farking scary!

Well your loss, i havn't highsided a bike yet, and i cut both tyres loose at the same time everytime i ride...

I havn't had a bin in over 3 years... if you saw how i ride you would wonder how the fuck not, it's called skill, something 99% of you posers can't comprehend. to busy tugging it online.

Fair enough. Real racers take it to the streets (but not street racing, thats lame, everythings lame)

Had close encounters with my front mud guard a few times had the bar end bruises on my knees to prove it and have end up running next to my bike while braking after bouncing from one side to the other not on the bike....

Dunno how I saved em.. just did. No thinking involved just automatic reaction and holding on tight.

I hit some gravel at 30k/hr on an intersection (after being told it was there) 2up and the bike went down enough to hit my knee on the ground (and it wasnt sticking out) Just as I hit the ground the bike gripped and a split second later we were up on 2 wheels and all was mint.
Dont know how, just did.

Didnt get laid that night though.....
