So, picked up the girlfriend's scooter this morning..little different from the cbr I ride...

2003 Lifan forte lf125t-6 with 1600km on the clock- I have no idea what the t and 6 stand for but it's 125cc of....hillariousness! Actually, 0-70km takes only around 4seconds! touched 100km on the flat too! (not bad as it has a top speed of 95 aparently?) only complaint is the brakes - fistfulls of front and back and it kind of coasts to a stop slowely...the brake disc was rather hot too so assume it's nothing that can be made better with better pads...

Other than that, a pretty sweet scooter for 650$!

Everyone's warned against a chinese scooter, but given A) cost 650$, B) she's currently taking busses that cost about 14$ a day, therefore if it lasts 43 days it will pay for itself C) there's no corrosion at all, even though it's chinese (lasting better than the 2005 chinese gn's!) it's a pretty sweet deal!

Electric start, fuel gauge, front disc brake (rear drum), 130 tires front and back, 125cc 4 stroke...In maroony kind of red :-)

I have always found scooters a real hoot to ride.
However, in saying that, they can bite back quite severely if you don't treat them with some respect.

How so? braking distance and cornering/in the wet?

Yes both of those plus the little fat wheels tend to track and pot holes can send them off in a direction you were not expecting.
I also find that after riding bigger bikes that plenty of people (read guys!) tend to think that a little ol scooter can't hurt them and ride them with little or no respect.

Yeah definately noticed that about the tracking...plus yeah I kind of threw it into turns a bit...:-P hence why I'm not riding it :-)

Any comments on the lifan chineseness? I figured they are like the biggest manufacturer of bikes in the world...so they can't be toooo bad - least good enough to last 2 or 3 years hopefully :-)?

Don't know sfa about lifans however I remember when anything coming out of Japan was considered rubbish (some people still think that!) so I think the chinese products will improve greatly over the next few years.

After making my little video, all I had recieved was a massive headache, bruising and thorns down my back. I wouldn't call that getting hurt. (however I was wearing full gears, right down to the boots lol, now who has seen anyone ever do that on a scroter???)

Heres a looksee if you want. Heeps of fun for $80

HAh! classic, reminds me of what I used to get up to around the trails in the botanical gardens in Dunners. I miss the old 50....

Where was all that?

Just thought I'd use this thread to ask a question - The lovely scooter is showing it's chinese roots - today the gf went to go ride it, and the ignition barrel seems to have come out (i have no idea how!!) how does one put the ignition barrel back in??!! it will go all the way in bar the last 5mm....i've put the key in the barrel so all the little bits are nice and flush with the outside of the barrel, but it won't go that last bit? do i need to remove the whole ignition? and if so, how does one do this!?
