Ouch. Wish I hadn't read that. Just had my Daytona WOF'd and now I need to Reg it. But yep, I was looked after pretty well by ACC as well so I guess maybe there is some justification for it.
Phew. Lucky I own a Harley. The manual says that registration and WOF's are optional.

You should be able to get a discount if you own multiple vehicles. After all, you can only drive / ride 1 at a time.
I hope that price was for a year, otherwise i will need to apply for a mortgage to run my bike.

My arguement a few years ago about acc was,if you have private medical insurance you should be exempt from acc levies on vehicles. We had at the time cover for 2 adults and kids(from birth the kids cover)surgical cover which was pretty well priced. At the time it cost about $80 year acc on rego for cars and bikes.Still have to pay via paye the levies so that would cover work and sport injuries from income.

I have 5 motorbikes, meh, I love them all so will keep doing the rego and etc on them. It's all relative! I could be spending that on wine, women and song ... but I find having 5 motorbikes cheaper! :devil2:

A correction James.
If your registration was due to expire on or after 1 July 2009, the price is $321.
You can't pay your registration a week early at the old price. My rego was due 2/7/09 but I re-registered it last weekend at the new price.

Private medical insurance doesn't usually cover emergencies - onlt elective surgery. And even then, if the procedure is covered by ACC then the medical insurer usually collects the ACC anyway, so they only have to pay for anything extra.
If ACC didn't exist then private medical insurance would cost even more.

Phew. Lucky I own a Harley. The manual says that registration and WOF's are optional.
Because there is virtually no chance of bike-accident when the bike's not starting most of the time.
Remember that speed is the primary factor for most if not all crashes. 0 speed = 0 crash.

I'm wondering how many new bike "dealers" are gonna start up.
$300 for a dealer plate for a year. Then ride any bike you want to as long as its got a WOF. (pt)
Mind you Ive argued for a long time that the rider/driver should be registered-One person -one rego.

I got the one with the water cooled, Porsche designed engine. If it doesn't start, it'll be because of the Japanese bits.

ACC Minister Nick Smith said the review would study whether basing the ACC levy on the safety ratings of cars could help drive down the $336 million annual cost of road crashes.
"I've seen information that the cost of motor vehicle accidents would be 40 per cent less if every vehicle on the road met a five-star safety rating. That's a huge difference and the question is whether that can be translated into a financial incentive for people to invest in safer vehicles."
It would be possible to connect vehicle registration with the make and year of a car, link that to a safety rating and a discount or extra premium.

While the article only refers to cars, motorcycles pretty clearly have a " Zero Star" safety rating.
No doubt this proposal will end up being applied to bikes as well.
Or just to bikes !

I think I'll delay registering the bike until the next Feb 29th.
That way the expiry date will have to fall on the next Feb 29th...
Yay for leap years!

If you think your bike ACC levy is horrendous, think how much the ACC is charging me for sitting at work in front of a computer screen.
The number may be (SLIGHTLY) lower than bike's, but I am sitting down FFS!

I'm sure 5-star rated riders/drivers would be a bigger factor.
Nick smith lick my balls, stick em to an envelope and mail them to ACC, Get Fucked Avenue.

Taxing the people who can't afford to get newer cars with higher safety ratings... Great idea... I'm less worried about paying for the injuries received by some poor bastard in a 20 year old honda civic than I am about having some idiot in a SUV post themselves in my drivers side window. Maybe we would be better off taxing people according to how much damage their car is likely to do to someone else in a crash.
Then again, I also think speeding fines etc. should be relative to a person's income/personal worth, although more demerit points and less money in fines is a good start...

LOL... if they are in your drivers side window you should have given way :)
aparently motorcycles are considered dangerous by the acc, they would much rather you do safer things like throw yourself down a mountain, out of a perfectly good plane, or tie a big fuck off rubber band to ya and jump of a bridge

if that was the case, the majority of people who attract such fines would get away with it. [not that they pay them anyways, but still]
