Jog missing

My 05 CV50 Jog has some odd problem
When its maxed out it misses cuts out for a second then keeps going, it seems very intermitant only doing it occasionally backing off the throttle then putting it on max again seems to solve this.
What would this be caused by?

Mods: Lightweight racing clutch, variator kit, light weight rollers and a kevlar belt (goes well off the clock :) )

Sounds to me like your highly technical piece of machinery is on the rev limiter – the engine is cutting out to avoid constantly redlining itself.

This is very common on high performance modern engines - even those GSXR bikes have this feature………..

Have you checked your plug for age/gap but more importantly colour?
You could be running lean or a bit rich, the plug should be brownish coloured.
If its black your rich, light then your lean. They can run outside the limit of the carbs jet just by changing to a pod filter or drilling holes in the standard air box, so if you have done any of those you will have to re jet.

Another problem is the float bowl and fuel filter, if the filter is blocked the bowl gets to low.

I think the CDI cuts every second spark when you have hit the rev limiter. The limiter is only there as a very effective speed restriction so like you I fitted the larger variator and lighter weights for a bit more speed its cheaper than the racing CDI. But the polini big bore kit is getting tempting.........

Occasionally when I'm going quite fast (yes it does happen on a scooter :yes:) and I'm at full throttle I'll hear a soft but very rapid "tick tick tick" noise which I assumed was the CDI cutting the spark, doesn't really feel like its missing or cutting out though.

Sounds more like the engine is trying to suck through more petrol than the carb can deliver. Hook in a fuel pump.

You can get away with just a new larger jet in the standard carb, think they are around 8 bucks, the exhaust is probably nearly as expensive as the bore kit .

I think some sport big bore kits are ok with emissions exhausts but the racing alloy bore kits are very fussy and not as long lived.
You could find an old scooter and use the standard pre emission pipe?
