Advice needed on buying a bike

Hi guys,
I need some help/info. I currently ride a DRZ400 here in SA.
When I come over to NZ I have a small budget to buy myself a bike. As I am used to riding an enduro type bike I cannot see myself going for a DR650, KLR650 or XT etc.
I have been looking at Trademe for a while to get an idea of bike prices, but obviously as I cannot actually go and view any bikes at this time I have no clue as to which condition these bikes actually are.
I'm prob looking to spend about $2500
So my questions:
1. what condition would a XR600 for $2500 be in?
2. What would a good condition KLX650/XR600/TT600 go for?
3. Would I be better off getting a DRZ/XR 250 on that budget?

you would be far better off if you had 4-5k to spend.
If you want combo adventure bike xl600 perhaps.
Or bmw if you can get extra few dollars.

nope, shipping will be a fortune, I dont even think it is worth enquiring. I suppose I will only really know my budget when I get there. still have a few months in which to save :sweatdrop

should get about $6000 (R30 000) for my bike here. But will need some of that cash to cover my travels. :bash:

Talking to my newly arrived from SA nephew yeaterday & judging from what he was saying about the price of bikes over there you may be disappointed about the range of bikes here within your budget.

Access to land is a lot different here too - Every piece of land in NZ is owned by somebody & usually gated or locked.
Apart from that you'll love it here.

Any road legal dirt bike that you can get in the $2K range will probably need another $500+ spending on it - chain, sprockets, tyres, wheel bearings etc. If you are not capable of doing this work yourself it gets more expensive.

In NZ you have to do the first part of your bike license on a 250 or less, this means that 250s are sought after & aren't usually any cheaper than a similar condition 600 in these kinds of bikes.

good post, i realise that now, perhaps then i'll wait to check out the riding when i get there and then decided. get the right tool for the job at hand :)

An enduro motorcycle is specialized for nature of the sport, with the deep suspension of a motocross bike combined with the features required to make it legal for the public road portions of the course. Engines are generally single-cylinder two-stroke between 125 and 300 cm³ (cc), or four-stroke between 250 and 650 cm³ (cc).

Much better! An explanation of why a KLR (etc) might be useful in NZ makes a lot more sense than just pointing out one on trademe to somebody who has just stated that "I cannot see myself going for a KLR650 etc" :yes:

I'm heading to Auckland for a start. My sister has been living there since 1999. This will be my first visit, so I'm pretty stoked. Really keen to do some fishing as well.
