Valentino Rossi, Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson lined up for an exhibition cart race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca a few minutes ago.

Rossi ended up "winning," with the other three crossing the line together a several seconds back.

The plan was originally to have three warm-up laps behind the pace car and then the race. But Kenny's cart had a problem on the course during one of those warm-up laps, which caused a delay. Roberts had been sliding through turn 11 previously.

In the end, the actual race was shortened to two laps. Rossi took the lead over Roberts up the hill on the start, led the first lap by about two seconds, then had a big lead coming to the flag.

The other racers crossed the line together.

Pit lane was pretty much a mob scene as the folks with a pass good enough to get in all seemed to want to watch.

"Now I can say I've raced Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey, and Eddie Lawson and won," said Rossi afterward.

Pictures should be about shortly

Rainey and Lawson are regular competitiors at an Internation Superkart meeting that is held there each year

250cc 2 stroke GP motors, supposedly putting out in excess of 100hp

The fastest recorded speed in one of them was Martin Hines at Daytona sometime around 93-94 162 mph, although it is possible they going faster now

Even the local 250 Superkarts will piss over a NZ spec Superbike at most tracks

I was thinking "carts around a GP circuit might be a bit boring"........err..... no, not at 160mph and no need to slow for corners!!!!!

At the original Bay Park Raceway years ago they stopped having carts at the track because they were faster then anything else and making the big roaring V8s etc look a bit silly.
