ok so the time has come to replace the tyres for the first time on the TL. I rang cycle treads today and asked for prices to replace the snot that is currently on the bike with new set. was quoted around 550 for a set of dual compound perellies (sorry bad spelling).
Question i have for the masses is as i commute on my bike what would be a good set to buy? Taking into account that i also do a fair bit a weekend work. i do anywhere from 500-800 kms a week on average. (sometimes more but not in the weather we have been having lately), And what would be a fair price to pay?

Ouch! For that many km's I'd be leaning towards the cheaper end of the pile. Vtwins, especially the TL chews through tyres. Unless you don't mind paying $550 for new rubber every 2 months! If you haven't already, it'd probably be worth investing in an ohlins rear shock as it'll reduce tyre wear.

My last set were M3's, good but quickly started to square off in the few weeks i used it to get to uni... Go with the 180 rear as well (instead of the stock 190), it'll greatly improve flickability

You are worried about the price of tyres???? How much gas are you going through a week?

Around 6 hundy. I went with a 2ct front though,

Dont go with a 180. the 190 PR2 had a nicer profile than a conti race attack 190/55.

Something i got off the TLZone forums.... however tyre dimensions seem to vary a fair bit between the manufacturers :buggerd:

Although i think budget dictates what tyres you're getting over brand & feel?

Hi Fizzy,
My last set were Pirelli Stradas
12k and probably a little more as I only changed cause of puncture on rear.
The front had a fair bit left

I vote for the PR2. Heard stories about them going for under $500 in Tauranga. Might pay to ring around.

a 180 is stretched on a 6'' rim.

When a tyre is put on the wrong size rim it deforms it - and as consequence can change the way it behaves - specially when its the side walls being pulled around.
