Hiya. Does anyone know if a wide glide tank for 90 - 99 models will fit a 95 superglide frame??

Am thinking of giving it a go. It's been officially written off. Just waiting for the insurance to come back to me with a buy back figure.
How can I let her go when she's just had a new drive belt LOL

Have you looked at getting you old tank fixed? It is possible to do.

I don't think it would be in this case.

WoW - that's quite a photo.
I think you need to find the part number(s) to compare.

It could be repaired by the look of that, the bars look bent at the risers, I would need to look at it in person but from that it looks repairable if you are willing to spend the time and perhaps a few customisations.

yes it will but the dash, and speedo of the wide glide will have to be used and I am pretty sure the fuel guage will need to be replaced as well

My bike has speedo separate from the tank but the speedo and tank are both buggered. Going to have to get new speedo anyway so can be a dash one. Need to look into pricing for that too I guess b4 I went ahead with the tank. Friggin insurance, don't really know which way to go.

The bars are buggered I think. Twisted at the risers and the actual bars. That an tank and primary case and left shock plus pegs, indicators etc are the obvious damage. Pretty sure I can source and replace all that myself. Not sure about the forks. Need to get look at the repair assessment. Also making a clicking noise when wheeled backwards but not forwards. Shop said would have to strip it down to check that out. I don't really have any idea what it could be.

Glad you're going to stick with it. I rebuilt a '98 Springer after being knocked off. Funnily enough, the more work you do on a bike, the closer you feel to it. Why not take this opportunity to source a nice aftermarket tank?
Anyway, sounds like a good winter project. If you've got a decent garage just get the factory manual and get stuck in to stripping it down. It's not the black art some would have you think it is. It's just procedures.
Good luck.

I know there are plenty of folks locally that will help you out with advise, tools and time if you are willing to ask, provide beer, and have the space to store the bike.

Thanks for that. I would definitely need all of the above. I have a double garage that bike can spread itself out in. Should get buyback figure today. Then will crunch the numbers and make a decision over the weekend.

rosie do you have an itemised list of the required parts with prices?.
And can you list it, would be interesting to price it out from all over the net.
Theres a few of Harley forums out there with people selling off there no longer
required stuff after customising..
Thats how i got a few bits nad bobs for my old sporty.
Oh and is your tank one or two piece?. knew some one up here with a two piece for sale
a while back could see if they have still got it.

Hiya. It's a 95 FXD. Havn't got the repair assessment yet but i think it's pretty much -
1. New front end
2. Tank. Original is one piece. Will use anything that fits. Since I need a speedo as well would quite like to get tank with speedo insert cos I like that look better.
3. Rear shock
4. Speedo
5. Clutch lever
6. Front and rear pegs.
7. Primary case

Have heard back from assessor. Buy back price is 5grand. It is being deregistered so need to take the cost and rigmarole of reregistering into account when deciding whether to go ahead.

If you do go ahead with the rebuild take a look at purchasing goods off shore, ive used a company by the name of Debrix Harley Parts straight out of the states, they were bloody fantastic to deal with. You could email your list to them and they will send a quote.

Total parts should come to around US$1000, nz $2500 should cover it,just doing a 10 min search.
Buy yours back and fix it up/customise to your liking.......
No need to buy cheaply as i've quoted
Wideglide front end, custom tank, custom speedo etc
of ebay.

Have priced up primary cover, tank, fork assembly, speedo direct from debrix site. Total of 1500USD. Have emailed for shipping cost. Even allowing 500USD for shipping it comes to 3200NZD.
Still need bars and indicators. Reckon can get them for 300ish. Bugger, forgot rear shock. Some on Tard me for 200.
So that brings running total including buy back to 9grand.
Custom paint job 2grand = 11grand.
OK, so bike is being deregistered. Anyone know how much for compliance testing and reregistering.
Other thing that I need to consider is that the clicking in the rear when she's wheeled backwards. Doesn't do it going forwards. Gonna have to track that down and fix.
Bearing in mind that insurance valuation was 14grand and considering time, effort and unforseen costs is it worth it??

From memory it was no more than $250ish, with standard rego charge for however long you choose on top.

If you good ahead and rebuild your bike and purchase parts from the states you can buy extra fast moving parts eg: mirrors, footpegs, indicators any chrome bolt on bits (regulator covers etc) and sell them of to recoop some cost. the last time i used them i brought a sissy bar complete (saved shit loads) and also added 20pairs of leather fingerless gloves sold them to recoop my outlay, (they were better gloves than the ones from leather direct). I would also email your parts list to them for a full quote, im sure they will give you disount as ive been offered 10% myself on parts.
the only other thing to find out is about the duty (GST goat shit tax), ive always stuck to under $500 to sneak under the radar!!.

Hiya. Thanks for interest and all good advice. After doing costings and weighing everything up I've decided to put all money into another bike. If the buy back had been 4 instead of 5grand and I had an extra couple of grand up my sleeve may have been different.
Also had to consider that my old girl has probably been binned before. Major weld in the inner primary case and lot of bog in the tank. And rear end is still an unknown quantity. Wheel bearings buggered but could be way worse. She went down at 100kph and obviously took a HEAVY knock.
The other thing is that I would have needed a LOT of help to get her back on the road. I am not the most patient person so if I was keeping her as my sole bike would have been getting stressed at amount of time off the road.
Could have bought as long term project and bought another bike. But that is 5grand that could go into new bike and realistically it would be a LONG project cos would be as finances allow.
Using my head, I'm gonna have to let her go. But my heart still says NOOOOOOOOOOO :weep::weep: I literally am having a little weep as I write this.
Here is a pic of my old girl in happier days...... Farewell

That's sad, Rosie.
But just look at this as a chance to get something a little different, maybe even more betterer.
Best wishes to you in your quest. :niceone:
