Hey does anyone know how the public gallery works in the courts?
How do you know where a particular case is been held?

Phone the court. Ask them.

That's along the lines of ring IRD or ring ACC. I will take it you don't know then!

Seriously, it is what I would do. Ring 'em and ask 'em.
Or if you don't want to wade through sixteen gazillion "press" options and listen to five hours of muzak, go call in in person - unless they're after you for summat...:laugh:

He's right... you have to ring and ask. Public gallery is just that - for the public. It's part of the open and fair justice system...

Ok thank you guys! Was planning on having a look tomorrow. There is a case that particularly disgusts me so I want to see justice done and also I am on uni holidays with nothing to do!

If you are going to the High Court in Auckland they have the cases and associated court rooms listed in the forum when you walk in. I assume it will be the same for other courts.

Yup. Normally posted in the main foyer area.

Be aware the judge has the final say on who is or is not allowed in his/her courtroom.
Verbal outbursts, wearing gang insigna or throwing gang signs from the the public gallery will most likely get you kicked out or held in custody for contempt.
However;
Eyeballing the fucker in the dock and staring them down is perfectly acceptible :angry:

Be aware, you may well have to share space with uneducated smelly unwashed smoking criminal leeches on society....

Nah, the cops waiting to give evidence don't sit in the public gallery.

Yeah ya just rock on up and sit ya self down. There are rules, like no wanking, no smoking, no heckling the judge.. but yeah it can be quite interesting.

my local rag gives up coming court appearances a week or so in advance. i also found trademe good to finding court times when a close friend was murdered, surprisingly enough.
no gang colors etc and no sunglasses [and this includes having them on top of your head] im assuming no hats too. no weapons... you may have to go through a metal detector. if its a high profile case, get there early-ish otherwise there may not be room for you.

Quite correct, unless you have a religious or medical reason for Mr Judge.
