Is there a more exciting way to go that anyone else takes? The Foxton straights really get on my nerves :)

My preferred route

Over the Tuka's through to Pahiatua, Woodville then the Gorge, Ashurst, Bunnythorpe then your in Fielding.

or same to Pahiatua
head for the Pahiatua Track but turn off at Ballance Gorge Rd. This will take you to the start of the Gorge bypassing Woodville.

Increased distance maybe, but way more interesting than the drudgery of SH1.

Yep - wot they all said - but this one above is a really nice scenic route, plus no cops on the back roads:sweatdrop

I like going to and from Feilding this way. No traffic, and some nice straight roads that are completely devoid of enforcement.

what he said and mix in some of what bogan said and there becomes a fairly good trip if you have the time hook into Ashhurst head out to Pohangina Valley east road to Apiti, kimbolton cheltem and into fielding its only a extra 112k's or so

you should be able to do wgtn to Ashhurst Via the rimitakas in 2hours 30 easy including fuel stops latte stops take longer but there is no reason you can't chop out Wgtn, masterton, ashhurst, apiti, kimbolton to feilding in 4 hours depending on your style

havent looked at the maps cause there really are only so many routes before you are going on a day trip to get what should take a couple of hours. If I am in a hurry I will come striaght up to levin the sh57 theough to AshHurst (note the 2 H!!) and on to feilding. if not then takas andup that side although that can get old fast unless diverting out alfteron way.

Anyhow, I am sure one of the above maps will be awesome. the whole point of this post is to spell Ashhurst properly............

As you were.

Many years ago, Sam Hunt was stopped by a cop in the morning on the Himitangi straights.
"Drinking are we, Mr Hunt?" the cop asked.

"No, no... bit early for me, but you go right ahead" I believe was his reply

Sounds like a reasonable response, but 'Foxton Straights' was used by Mr Hunt as an adjective for???....Surely there must be someone else out there that knows this?
