View Full Version : Drive through complications

Has been a main question on my mind, Burger King hiring drive thru staff that can barely speak the basics of English. Had a very frustrating experience trying to order a double whopper and getting a BK chicken meal!! Don't you just hate it having to literally babysit the staff via drive thru on what to do.
As far as i know in order for a business to booming, customer service is a key fundamental, right. So i dont know why on earth they are hiring people who know "hello", "can i take your order". Its predominantly Korean, Chinese, they are losing profit from having foreigners on visa's. I miss the days when Albany BK and the one next to the motorway were all fluent English speakers. With all respect those Burger Kings in particular are all segregated now, all Asian, that's their choice but at least hire one fluent English speaker Burger King!!! Its like having a American thug with all his slang as an English teacher. But winging and moaning aside I'm going to lay some complaints on their be-hind.

Don't forget, "New Zealander's" only make up 50% of Auckland's population now.
Maybe we should start learning Chinese.

BK in Hamilton central are similar, often hard to find a competent english speaker. I used to travel to Japan regularly and find it surreal that it can be harder to order food at a BK here than in downtown Nagoya.

I say Burger king should employ Maori's in the drive thru's so the orders will be easy- "Oi porch monkey i want a whopper, forget the fries or ill take another one of your beaches".

Too right, i dont see how it will hurt burger king if they just hire one english speaker. In an ideal world we would never imagine that foreigners who cant speak english would be in a drive thru, this world sucks.

Fast food outlets employ (I would imagine) the people who want to work.
Got to give it to the asians and indians, they work.
The pay rate offered by Fast Food outlets would the same for every would be employee, only those that really want to work for their income need apply.

No, in that case correct phrasing would be "...I want a Fopper..."

My pet hate is phoning up a help desk or similar and getting someone whose english is so heavily accented that it is nigh on impossible to understand them...I make them speak veeeerrrry slowwwwly and just tell them right out that I cannot decipher their accent...

It's even worse when someone phones you to try to sell something and you can't understand a thing.
I find that "Fuck Off" seems to be universal!

They are the most fun, what do you say to them besides swearing at them?
The "hewwoo dis is chineeese fish chip shop" works, or one of my favourite talk in gibberish. Oh and "do you know what a truck reversing sounds like"- then hang up. :mobile::argue:

Wanganui BK drive-through is usually staffed by teenage girls. All of them kiwis.
As for Mcdonalds, The bastards gave me a small coffee the other day, then tried to argue the point even though I had the recipt that had large coffee written on it, So the moron poured it into a bigger cup, made a huge mess, handed me my "new" coffee wrapped in napkin satureted in coffee, then the fucking lid came off as she handed it to me and coffee poured all over my hand and harm.
So, I punched her in the face.
Well, If it were legal to do so I would have.

In all seriousness, it would be something productive for the Maori to get in to, a job that requires no physical work. And not exactly full commitment, something to get them off the streets or out of trouble. Most of my family either work for works infrastructure, highway stabilizers, or are in prison. Their typical mainstream jobs dont get them prepped with good communication skills, and edikit.
Mind you Maori aren't so familiar with "fast food" do you know how long the dam hangi's take! Be assured they wont pull a whopper out of a pit.
