are you guys more into gentle trail riding, or the more hard out stuff, or the MX end of things?

horses for courses, there'd be people in Dirt Division that do it all. I even have an FMX ramp, still learning though. Have some pics in my CR125 album, can't remember the code to embed them in a post ....
Good in comparison to what? I'm very proficient at having a fucking blast whenever i get on my dirtbike. As for skills, hmmmn, nothing too epic, i mean I don't think id be mfsc material:Pokey:

Yep, my off-road motorcycle Postie job involves following a lot of muddy, gravelly trails. Do about 300 180 degree turns each day. Pretty skillful stuff on such crap bikes.

We have everything from complete beginners aged 3 up to a world beating extreme event winner and everything in between... Most of us think we are better than we really are.... Some really are that good......

Now thats got to be a typical carver question?? You need to get your head in a different place, you seem to always have a real issue about who's best or better.
Firstly you will find few of us ready to blow our own trumpet because as soon as you start doin that you usually get freckin HURT.
Usually the fast ones wait for the slower ones on trail rides etc. Secondly even in a race we help each other! Not much fun lyin out in the bush with your collar bone pokin through the skin or your knee pointing in the wrong direction. And I've never seen anyone ride past a fallen kid!
But we have people posting here from Chris Birch (if you don't know that name you shouldn't even be posting here) to Danger, Ktm boy etc to Barty Rupe and others to beginners. Some into Enduro, Club and national MX and a few young fellas into FMX. All getting better every time they ride!

what do you do?
I deliver the mail for NZ Post.
You quickly learn how to use your weight to counter balance what the bike is trying to do. It can be good fun trying to stuff some mail in a box whilst the bike is in a controlled slide. Falling off is the best way to learn what you can and can't do (get away with doing).
However some of the delivery runs are on normal roads and a bit boring.

That can be a good thing. You don't have the problem of re-learning things. One of my mates is a good mate of luke's, apparently he had hardly ridden when he started fmx....just decided to do it!
I'm not really a dirt rider anymore, but I jumped on a bike in aussie last year (for the first time in about 15 years) and went out with a fairly well ranked guy (steve someone....mate of my mate over there) to hunter valley where all the pro's practice, and held my own ok still. I was jumping all but 2 of the tabletops after about the 2nd session, and could hold on to steve for about a lap.....but there weren't that many fast guys there that day.
I used to race MX up north about 15 or 20 years ago and could beat or equal anyone up there back then... but as per normal for me, never had the cash to take it any further.
Ah the good old days :bye:

Had a dirt bike dream alright - after getting my gear on for race I went to get on bike and someone had stolen it. Everyone took off from start line and I ran after them - then I woke up in a sweat. Doh.

If it makes you feel any better your RMZ went quite nicely yesterday
Finally got round to picking it up and took it for a quick play up the forest, front brake was an easy fix with a quick bleed and adjust but having no pads at all in the rear (wtf?) and what sounds to me to be a leak in the master cylinder made the rear impossible to do on the spot.
Hopefully get around to taking the master cylinder into the shop and picking up some pads at some stage aswell as fixing that damn pipe (fell off again haha) and servicing it. Probably a good idea to check valve clearances given how much you struggled to start it and that it was no easier for me yesterday. Mate just picked up a trick as 07 YZF250 so we'll have a go at learning about them together. Fucking 4 strokes!
But as usual the 2 stroke was better :headbang: took the Honda for it's first real test ride after that puncture stopped it being in Tangi and it went well. Still surprises me how much the power is orientated in the bottom end, wheelies sections off the bottom with ease!
Masterton MX track next weekend I think, Jealous yet?
