ok i know its not the motorbike shops fault but I binned on ma bike 16 weeks ago and the insurance looked at it and said yes they will cover it, so far so good, and then the bike shop started getting the parts in and replacing fixing etc, allgood there, so after 5 weeks i rang the bike shop to see how they were getting on, i was really starting to miss my bike by then, and they said they were just waiting on my swing arm it was on factory back order, so i waited and waited and then i rang them after another 5 weeks and they said that it had just arrived but the curier and droped it on its end between auckland and hamilton, so they had to get another one but it was going to be flown out, so angry but accepting i waited and waited and just rang again to find out where the new swing arm is and ohh what do you know its on fricken factory back order again and could be another 5 weeks, arrrrrrggggg so i have no bike at the moment which means no transport as its my main form of transport, so i am getting really annoyed and as far as i know there is crap all that i can do, except maybe ring kawasaki and complain and get no where.

As someone just said to me on another matter, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil."
Be polite but start ringing everybody and don't wait five weeks between calls.
The quoted delivery times are hard to understand, I've just been quoted forty days and other stuff I get from Europe is here in a week. Mind you airfreight on a swing arm might up the price a bit.

The bike shop orders it from the importer and the importer tells them how long it'll take...

yea which stinks because as far as i know there is nothing that i can do but wait, or maybe try and get a temporary bike out of the curriers that damaged the swing arm, and boy if the new swing arm thats meant to be coming gets damaged in transport i wouldn't like to be living with me haha

When a car is in for repair you get a courtesy car! Don't they have courtesy bikes?? Or at least a car to use ... if you have a car license that is!!

Youre lucky its not an Aprilia. If you could actually find a dealership, it would be 16 weeks before they decided to see if the parts would be avaliable within 6 months.

wouldnt it be smart for you to buy 2 and keep 1 as a spare? :bleh:

Do you realise how many bikers crash their bikes every week??
If a bike shop gave a courtesy bike to everyone who crashed their bike there wouldnt be any left in the shop! haha.
Its not their fault he crashed his bike.
Factory backorder means Kawasaki have run out and need to make some more.
And in no way is it the bike shops fault before people start blaming them.
Still sucks either way man. Hope you get it sorted soon.

You could always consider the extreme option of buying a "new" bike, and selling the current one once it is repaired.
Or perhaps you could ask the insurance company how much you would loose if they wrote it off? e,g. Would you take $1,000 hit in the payout if they wrote it off now?

Have you tried sourcing one yourself from the USA or looking on Aussie ebay?

Must be a pissy weak swingarm if it gets bent by a courier dropping it. You sure you want something that pathetic holding the back wheel on? Ask to see the "dropped and bent" one.

i was just thinking about that, its crazy because it does not weigh that much, so if it really is damaged the delivery man must of been trying to damage it

Factory backorder means its waiting to be made and the bike manufacturer is out of stock. Production runs are scheduled when they are scheduled and its also about materials procurement. Last year we were waiting for a new Ohlins product and the delay ran to 6 months, simply because Ohlins couldnt source the raw material. There are many things like that that are unavoidable.
For the second incident blame the courier company, a lot of these idiots seemingly delight in how far they can throw packages.

The solutions to your problem are all here in this thread. And we could even provide you with advise re better insurance companies, better places to take the bike to be fixed next time you crash and how not to crash...
But are you taking any of this in or are you just seeking attention?
What have you done as a result of this thread to sort the issue?

The law (CGA) states that parts must be reasonably available for goods sold to consumers in New Zealand.
Is 16 weeks 'reasonably available' for the swingarm on a 2009 common mass produced motorcycle? Not really. It's a case for the disputes tribunal... I mean, it's costing you in alternative transport arrangements isn't it?

is there a clause in the insurance contract where they will sort you out with transport till yours is fixed?
probably not, but if they did and it was costing them 100's a day for a rental car boy would they put the pressure on... or may be they would have written the bike off already.

Have you checked availability of this part with another dealer elsewhere that has the same franchise?
This may be a simple case of buck passing as others have mentioned regarding failing to order etc., or maybe even that the bike shop is on credit hold with the supplier and is just feeding you a line of BS.
Not saying that's the case, but it has been known to happen.
I also think it's highly unlikely though not impossible, that couriers damaged something as substantial as a swingarm.
Assuming this is a Kawasaki, I recently ordered some ZX14 fairing panels through MR Motorcycles and they weren't much more than a couple of weeks ex-Japan. The packaging ex-Kawasaki and the dealer was very protective....

I quickly scanned this thread and thought "bummer, bad news about the bin etc, looks like a wait for bits etc" and then looked at the mode of transport. Was this a 2009 bike that was damaged? If so, who the fuck would buy one if you can't get bits for it?
You can bits for a 1969 Triumph T150 Trident quicker than that.
That seriously sucks and it sounds like a) you're getting the run-around something fierce or b)it's a lesson in what NOT to buy bike-wise.

Yeah, that would really suck - but on the upside at least you know where you are with them after that! There's plenty of good dealers like MR Motorcycles who are only to happy to mail/phone/email order parts etc for you though, that's the beauty of this modern age - much more choice! :)

Make more noise. Seriously I had a similar problem some time ago sourcing a new set of handlebars. After a seriously long wait I phoned the insurance company and asked if it was okay with them if the bike shop conducting the repairs put on a set of aftermarket bars until the "proper" ones arrived. Literally ten minutes later the insurance company and the bike shop had sourced the correct bars and I had the bike back one day later.
