I was reading an interview with chopper (typical aussie bike mags to interview a guy famous for being a criminal:innocent:) and he said it's pretty much fabrication for the most part. They twisted all of his "stories" and he didn't see a cent for the movie. Just thought I'd add that...

Dean
14th July 2009, 17:21
I saw that on in interview with Mark (chopper), i just finished watching it a second time its amazing. Some argue that it was just or right for his killings because he only killed criminals (drug dealers etc).

What do you think of the movie, a rating out of 10.

Pretty much in the first scene he attacks his main rival in prison by getting a knife and stabbing him in the side of the head and neck about 20 times, facing charges he gets someone to cut his ears of to get out on insanity. Than he commits a murder spree working for the police, killing criminals. He doesent know how to read or write but has one of the most succesfull books published on his life.

Pretty confident it is written in Chopper's own words - mostly anecdotes about past encounters with badarses.

Pretty blunt, brutal and.......well funny, as only Chopper can do funny while he is cutting your toes off.

Possibly or probably a bit of egotistical crap in there as well, but entertaining reading.....and quite brutal....did I mention brutal ?

Hello Deano im Dean who was originally supposed to be called Deano, people refer you to as Dean so im a lost identity because of you:confused: just kidding

Yeah right, working for the Police......that was his 'story' anyway.

His books give a much better insight into how he liked to play the Police...but then you wonder if he was just ad libbing it all along.

G'day - there can be only one Deano LOL

I thought the books were much more raw and brutal and honest than the movie.

A flatmate had a few of them (I think there was eight altogether).

Never seen any since - never searched too hard either I guess but I don't think they were best sellers so maybe limited publication ?

I havent seen ths scene of him cutting of peoples toes, so i guess he went into that in more detail in the book. I was told the movie was %100 fact, i need to get my hands on one of these books. Would be a thrilling read.

It's kind of sad he can get a legendary status off that kind of shit, while someone like Andy McNabb is pretty much unheard of here (I hear some of you opening google right now), but that's a little off topic. Anyway, I doubt they will have it in the library, might have to hit up trademe later haha Edit: Or mighty ape!

Andy McNabb is my favorite author. Libraries do have his books. The man has written over a dozen of them!

I have only read about his books, and seen a few shows involving his commentary of experience etc, but someone told me that he is pretty much out there to "make a buck off the death of his mates" or something like that, and I was pretty surprised that an sas trooper of all soldiers can actually write a book about their experiences that are usually pretty hush hush...

I have read all Choppers books in Aus, let's just say - he tells a good yarn<_<

They are a good read, but when you read them all, there are discrepancies!

Interesting fella tho, I had coffee next to him in Melbourne, and no I didn't ask for an autograph LOL!

Weaver

Andy McNabb has two non-fiction books. Both of which were nearly banned, apparently. The first non-fiction book, Bravo Two Zero, is about a mission gone wrong during the Gulf War. The second non-fiction book, immediate Action is an autobiography.
His fiction books are all written in a similar style to Bravo Two Zero, in which he goes into great detail about things. They are all very realistic too.

I wasn't afraid of him, and in fact he's quite approachable and a funny as bugger, I just didn't want to harrass him! He was being harrassed somewhat as it was in the heyday before the movie came out.

The movie has got nothing on the books!!!!! The scenes in the movie are teeny tiny portions of his life yarns

Yea I don't know, but I think you'd know pretty quickly if he didn't like you, don't think he would have a problem labelling anyone, he's quite happy to call lebanese types wogs...no doubt Alfonse was jovially called a wog once or twice!

I agree, when he did the ads on crime, which made significant progress on getting to people wanting to live a life of crime as chopper did to not pursue it. He knows the reality so he can be a good spokesperson, to get the message across. The one word he hates to say is "NEVILLE BARTOS".

Ever since he released his movie and published all 8 of his books, some Australian youths wanted to live a life of crime as chopper did. They saw the crime life glamourised, followed him, i think the ads may of made some change, hopefully they did.

Imagine if Chopper was on twitter it would be like- 10:46 am, im going over to Neville Bartos's house and if he doesent produce some cash im going to capp him 2:35, I shot Neville Bartos in the kneecap, now hes producing me some cash:laugh:

In one of his books, he did emphasise that it was much safer to read about the underworld, rather than live it.

Let's face it, Chopper didn't give a f*ck about consequences....the law or pain, he didn't seem to be scared of anyone or anything....maybe an act, but a bloody good one. And the humour well......

I know i wasn't going to try my lines on any mentor's :innocent:
I'm going to make up some new pick up lines, in fact after watching chopper a bit more i have a few already. Now any candidates?I think some good advice is: Quit all these cheezy pickup lines, and just talk to some girls. A year of trying lines like that and all you'll end up with is a persona perceived by the girls you know as somewhere between a not so confident Ron Jeremy and the kiddie fiddler on the corner:wari:

Some interesting, gory, brutal facts on chopper read when he was a teenager

"He later graduated to kidnapping and torturing members of the criminal underworld, often using a blowtorch or bolt cutters to remove the toes of his victims before killing them"

He was convicted of crimes such as armed robbery, firearm offences, assault and kidnapping, and only spent 13 months outside of prison between ages of 20-38.

Breed777's thread is a real deep one, my prediction is it will go on for a long time, its good because people post positive advice. And there are morals to learn from it.

There is no disputing, whether Mark Brandon Read exaggerated or "yarned", he still went through a had life and his stories would be something to listen to.

From what I recall, he was TOTALLY anti drugs, I can't remember any quotes, could probably search them out, but that was the constant, being an old school crim, what they call them over there? The port/wharf guys, can't remember the names now!

AUSSIE police can be brutal, when on the wrong side of them! They are armed (Well I know they were in Queensland!). The watch Tower in Brissy was particularly shocking, as I recall, at times. Mind you they are dealing with hard arses, and they don't muck around!

I had heard there was quite a bit of corruption, especially around the Melbourne gang wars, which was rooted out, I had heard it went quite far, I don't think NZ police can be compared on that scale, to be honest!
