RemarkIT (www.remarkit.co.nz) specialise in recycling ex business PCs. My eployer has bought a fair bit of gear from them. Ok quality, reeasonable warranty, reasonable price. Not super good games kit but fine for work / e-mail / web surfing. Dunno about shipping to Auckland.

If you dont need a monitor, plenty of places do 'upgrade boxes' for about $500.
www.pricespy.co.nz is a good place to check a few prices, but be warned, some prices are not accurate, products not always in stock, and some shops dodgy as!
Most of the time its a really good guide for the best reasonable price.
Hey lewises, does that include win xp in that price?

I got a CG125 for five hundy off a mate. It goes real good and started easily after being left idle in the gargre for 18 months.
Five bucks gas lasts a real long time so I reckon you should look into one yourself if you want a commuter....

Heh, I read the title and thought you were asking about a "cheap commuter" even though I'd read the title and post correctly the other day...
If you're after a new computer, you could try www.qmb.co.nz, they are pretty good. Sometimes they even have stuff on their website that is cheaper than what www.pricespy.co.nz shows in their lists.
