Cool pic, now can someone tell me what bike this is?

Looks like a brand new GN250 being delivered.

Its missing the anchor chain......
and there is only one bike that attaches to them
Its a "harley":woohoo:

BSA bantam or whatever its called, its old, looks like a single cylinder thumper.
Or an old triumph, indian?

My guess....except the chain/guard is wrong side. Still thinking Jap, tho.

It's a twin cylinder single carb 2-stroke, thinking Yamaha. My guess is YD-2.

If it is japanese it'll still start!

It looks like a Suzuki T10 250 from the 60's BUT no-one has commented on why the chain drive is on the right so maybe something like an MZ or CZ?

The Yamaha has it's chain on the RHS.

Yep, but pretty sure that none of the YD series had fork gaiters whereas the Suzukis did (God, I'd better get an anorak and a train spotting book:shutup:). Maybe you can tell me I'm wrong and make me feel a whole lot better
nudemetalz
16th July 2009, 12:44
That's true, but remember it's a 40 year old (dumped) bike and people did all sorts of mods back then. May have had YDS forks put on it.
Sheez, I'm sounding like a geek here but I like my classic Yamahas (hence owning the YG1)

One thing I do like about the bike is the rust free luggage rack at the back of the bike....

It looks like only one spark plug poking out, in the centre of that wide-looking head.

Still looks to have a strong family resemblance to the Yamaha YDS3 from about 66. I went for a nice ride on one in the tropics - keeping an eye out for water buffalo... The YDS3 has/had the chain on the right.

I think the picture is trasposed. Seems like the clutch cable is coming off the right hand lever.
Edit; nope, the writing on her wet suit is the right way round.

YDS2/YDS3 never had a fully enclosed chain. And the headlamp is worngA , they had a sort of binnacle on top.
I thgink it's smaller than 250. Def a two smoker twin, probably Yamaha

Searched everything I have and still no closer to I'd-ing this bike

I wonder where the photo was taken and whether it's one of those obscure Asia-only models? Like you, I can't get a match as there are parts of the bike (fully enclosed chainguard with fork gaiters)which don't seem to go with other parts if we're guessing an early Yamaha so maybe it's a bitsa!

Plus the YA is a semi-cylinder forward design.
Despite the central plug, I still think those fins and crankcase are too wide for a single cylinder.

Ever seen an MZ, ETZ250? Externally, the motor looks like a 600 single.
Dunno if I'm convinced it's a two smoke yet. Looking again now...
Edit; definately a two stroke single. The pipe appears to come from the side, but looking closer it comes out scewiff from the barrel.
As to what it is, still non-plussed.

Yeah, have seen the ETZ's. They have quite a square looking barrel and fins.
This has vertical cooling fins on top.
No, I'm convinced that the enclosed chain is Yamaha type, as to what it is
Definitely going to go through my classic Yamaha book tonight as this is bugging me now !!

Yep, and even though some character parked it here they still chained it to make sure no one makes off with it. Some where there is a guy who chained his bike up 40 years ago and can't remember where he parked it.
And the round badge on the tank fits two Japanese marques that I can think of. And as for single / twin. I wonder if the rider/diver is single and has a twin?
If one of you lot can figure out what bike this is I'd be impressed.

The tank pad and round badge screams Yamaha. But damned if I know what it is.
The bike is odd because it has a massive tank and tiny motor.

yup thats about right, the uk was flooded with them in the late 70`s to early 80`s MZ and another though they looked like the same mould a CZ
There was a jawa badged MZ. I worked for the NZ MZ importer at one stage but luckily by the time I started they were getting out of them.

I posted the photo on 2 of the international Blackbird websites out of sheer curiosity. The lines of debate were remarkably similar to here but the closest was a CZ 175 from the late 60's or early 70's. It had a raised horizontal ridge on the back of the gearbox, fully-enclosed chain on the correct side and the tank was virtually identical. The knee cut-outs were a slightly different shape though. Guess we'll never know but thanks for the fun:Punk::Punk:

Actually I agree now.
Believe it's a (possibly 1966) Sears Allstate 250 twingle.
This makes sense with the bike cylinder(s) and one spark plug. The "twingle" is a split cylinder 250 with 2 pistons one behind the other with seperate conrods.

Nup. Have to admit, it was an early pick of mine. But...been flicking between your pic/s and the watercooled version....the engine at least is all wrong. Too big and rounded.
The original pic looks photoshopped. The diver seems too 'crisp'

The bike in the first pic, is missing a cradle in front of the motor, I thought that was how it was made, but looking at the angle the motor is on, I wonder if it wasn't removed by whatever dive company put it there for tousists.
