View Full Version : My daughter wants to race...

As the title says, my daughter wants to race. She's ten years old, and keen as on riding.
I dont know much about dirt riding/racing, and I'm wondering where we could take her for it. Nothing too serious just yet, she's only been riding a little pit bike (the two stroke ones without gears), and I've just got her a bigger 125 with gears and actual suspension.
Will take a little while to get her confident on it, but I guess I just wanna know if there is a class for her to ride it in.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

First off: can you afford it... gear, bike, subs, travel blah blah blah...
Second: upto you do you want her to race... upto you to decide.
Third: Not positive, but might be there will be a class that she go and have some fun first, social level or something see if she enjoys it...

First off: can you afford it... gear, bike, subs, travel blah blah blah...Fuck no, but I cant afford to race myself, yet there I am.
Second: upto you do you want her to race... upto you to decide. If she wants to race, then there is no reason not to let her.
Third: Not positive, but might be there will be a class that she go and have some fun first, social level or something see if she enjoys it...Social classes is where I want her to start.

Up to her if she wants to race dirt or tarmac. If she goes the cleaner option, I'd be happy with reduced cost.
Be warned though, her name is Tylah Louise MAIR. LOL

That's why I gave you the Kapi Mana link mate, don't know why you ignored that.
Did you see the TV news item tonight http://tvnz.co.nz/close-up/moto-cross-kids-tear-up-2850624 ?
Courtney Duncan is someone's daughter on the way to the top but she'll have to watch out if a Mair is coming after her.

Didn't ignore it bro, when I click the link it takes me to an up north club. Will check it out again. Edit, my bad, I had scrolled past your link, and clicked on the next one. Will contact those guys too.
Wont be putting too much pressure on Tylah, but if she is into it, I'll do everything I can to support her.

Not likely mate. I'm all about the tarmac, if she wants to do enduro racing, I might get something to go riding with her on, but MX practice is on a track and I can stay clean and unstuck.

Good attitude mate... can't even begin to describe how good it is for my family... Guidance and support with the emphasis on family fun goes a looong way.....

I 'loan' the kids their bikes, so I retain ownership and control, but for their birthday (twins) they got to pick out the riding gear, helmets etc. That way I figure they'll look after their own clothes/safety gear, while I look after the bikes. Seems to be working so far and going riding/racing is a treat, not a right....

If we go racing, I'll likely have to sell the ones she has now to get something better, but for all intent and purposes, they belong to her.

Mate, if you can afford it then give her the chance to give it a go... it'll be good for her. And I'd start with pitbikes/motox, all the best riders seem to hve a background in dirt. Gonna be an expensive hobby tho aye. Good luck bro

Hell yeah, if she gets into it, I dread the day I'm up for a brand new RMZ.

To find out what she's into more, I might put some road tires on Malcom/Mikey/Whitetrash's old pitty and give her a crack at buckets too.

Hehe I'm just waiting for the day when Keiran wants to race. He's 13 months old and totally obsessed with motorbikes. That'll be another MAIR out there. Crikey the Mairs are taking over!

are ya gonna get one of those cheap electric ones from the warehouse? they just have a switch on the bars for forward or reverse, they're brilliant. A mates son was taking on the 3 stair off their deck at about 20 months old. He's gonna be moved on to a 50cc chinese sports quad soon (which was purchased when he was about 3 months!)

If your into it Drew, a mate of mine has a track on his property up in levin and his boy has an 85 which they are selling but not as yet !
That would be the MX class you'd want to start her at (unless ya want to start her in the pee wees)
Red's all about the kids and won't mind in the least if ya wanna bring Tylah up to have a go, billy is 11 now and has moved up to a 150 (and cleaning the fields up) and being the social kid he is, would love the idea of giving her his bike to try out !
