Buut... does anyone know how I can get to ride an Aprillia RS 250.
A guy from this site gave me a ride on the back of his a few weeks ago and I wet myself!

I dont know anything about fast bikes but if you can practise self control then you should be fine, i have been told an aprillia rs250 is crazy fast for a 250cc.

Hmmm taking risks and bikes normally ends up equaling pain.:crazy: Sounds like you like riding a lot(wetness and all) so get yourself sorted out and get your licence , then you will be able to get yourself the bike of your choice.

I know a guy in waikato with a rs250, he's selling it at the mo. I tell you what there are other ways to have fun letting your hair down etc on a friday night, im sure that andy dude on kb will elaborate. :sick: You peed on the dudes bike ewww, if you took a piss on my bike you would have to wine and dine me at a fancy resturant as punishment for the night.

To the original question from softrider: I would go to a dealership with an rs250 for sale and let them know you are interested in taking one for a ride. Just convince them you are serious about buying (whether you are or not...). Of course, for that you'd need a learners license at least. If not, probably just try to find someone on here with an rs250 that would let you have a quick ride. Maybe entro. Watch your back, though...

Why an RS250? Awful things, hideously expensive to rebuild too, and they're so taaaame!

If you want a real 250, you'd buy this little baby (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=103317). Puts a grin on your face equal to a litre bike! :D

If you want to rule on one of these bikes, then you are much better off starting on a shitter bike that you can roll, bowl, and arsehole. You need to learn to put your fears aside and steer and brake, but doing that on an RS250 is difficult, since it's just too tempting to cane it all the time, and a host of other reasons.

Please forget about speed and straight-line exhilaration, and start devouring reading material on cornering superbikes, and put that into practice on some bike with sticky tyres you can trust. Learn to scrape its' pegs at some modest speed where you are not so likely to take your own life in a blinding flash of twisted steel.

Every few weeks or months, another well-known and loved KB member takes their own life in some freak accident or gung-ho stupid manoevre, and it upsets hell out of everyone, but we haven't had that happen some really cute teenage chicky, so please don't go down in history as the first. cheers.

...Now she is able to stay upright, and can even wheelie, would I let her ride my rs250 ? Fuck no, she'd die within minutes... An RS is not a good bike to learn on... I learnt on an NSR and fucked myself up a bunch of times including a femeur broken in 5 places..
Get something smaller like an rg150 and work your way up to it... you are going to hurt yourself..

Thinking of coming home for summer and spending some cheeky dollars on my rs..

I agree, if you can bear riding a shitter to build up your skill go for it, but if you decide to go for the rs its a matter of taking it slow and not getting over confident.

I cant speak from experance as ive only just got my bhs so I havnt done any decent riding but I kno for shure that im going to be very reserved when the nsr is going.

Doesnt the rs use the suzuki engine? if so even tho it is a 250 its alot of grunt to control.

Its all about self control, unfortunately most dont have enough. Chances are that if off the start you're simply looking for the most powerful 250 available, you're not one with the control to handle that power.

intersting to see tat the 250 two stroke riders advice against it, ill put my 2 cents in and advise against it too, ive rode an RS250, and owned a KR-1S (250 two stroke as well) and they just wheelstand far to easily coming out of corners, invoking the dreaded tank slapper at times. Learn on a oldish four stroke 2fity would be my advice. Worked for me anyway.

I went over to Waihi on the weekend and had a ride with Cave Weta on his dirt bikes! What a neat guy! - he showed me all sorts of tricks about staying safe and enjoying dirt riding. and we rode a selection of bikes too.

Cave Weta's Got a KTM 525 and I had a little play on that too- but after all that rain the riding was wet and slippery messy so we watched DVDs on Erzburg and Red Bullwhile he cooked us a meal.
I agree with what Weta told me about dirtbikes-"you can ride as hard as you like and not get tickets, and you dont have to pay huge rego fees to have fun on two wheels."

LoL im a rebel, anyways on topic, did some research the rs250 has a seat height of 770mm, front brakes-dual discs, rear brakes-single disc. 16.5 litres, and the one you probably want to know about, 70hp, 20nm of torque. Sounds like not enough torque to accompany the hp, im guessing you would have to ring the thing in high revs to make it boogie.
