Splendid to see you have sampled the delights of the mighty KLR - they're a lot of fun, even without the sheep.

However, a question - Got the latest KR tonight. "Subscribe and win your choice of KLR650 OR a KX250F - worth over $15000" Que? When did the KLR go up nearly 5 grand?

Sorry I'm not privy to the numbers - guessing ORC and blingage.

I have always rated the KLR. I did +/-500km on it today and rate even higher now.

I went Akl, Cambridge, Raglan, Te Akau, and the far West Coast road home. Mint. Ferkin' mint.

If you could drop a note to Mr Simon Meade - Sales & Marketing at Suzuki - nice man - and suggest that he make one available to BD at his earliest convenience I'd love to accommodate. :-)

2nd hand and tidy = $4-5k or so.

There's an older one on TradeMe but the '08s (such as you rode) and later have a large number of changes, both mechanical and cosmetic.

Rims don't bend - it's a KLR, not a KTM. Springs *might* be required, how big a bastard are you?

Right c***.

I weigh as much as 2 small folks, & Co-pilot would want to come along too occasionally.

is that why they weigh 50kg more than the ktm?

that said, i've never bent a ktm rim in the last 50,000km on their singles

dave is a just a fragment of whom he used to be but i reckon a 90kg spring might be wise

If you're looking for a bike that's "co-pilotable" then the DR isn't going to be your :first: or even :second: choice.

KLRs have their faults but wheel rim strength isn't one of them.
However some people have been known to have issues with KTMS.

that's almost universal with roadable single cyl chook chasers; seat real estate is pretty much negligible and reall7y Dave, you have a Ulysses don't you?

Yep - and in many ways it's the KLR with 103 horsepower and wicked handling.

Knobby tyres, 21"hoop, and not really care if I put it in a ditch, it doesn't do.

i understand but then the bike Mrs Big Dave should be on the back of is the Buell not the KLR isn't it?

if you take 2 up out of the equation, the answer is much easier; that's why my motard has the back pegs removed, it's for me to be an idiot on without worrying what 'er indoors will say

as you know, almost any big wof-able single yammy suzi, kwaka, or hondog trailbike fits your bill if the mistress is removed

i looked for the perfect bike for both 1 up and 2 up but couldn't find it. for a while i thought it was the 950sm and it was a great bike but in the end the happiest solution is to be specific

Like I shun excess.

It would make more sense to get something that she can legally ride too. Shes like the Gas Gas Pampeira-whatsit on paper - but I think it looks at me and says *help*.

if the KLR is too tall for your missus to ride, you can get lowering links and they are dead easy to install. Raise the fork tubes through the yokes to lower the front a bit

18th July 2009, 17:55

Nah - not an issue. Near 6' with her boots on. Grrrrrrr.

While I have a top box on, and put it as far forward possible, yeah, not really any room for a pillion, unless she's 50kg and tiny...
