View Full Version : Exhaust question...

My bro's GN250 is leaking a bit of exhaust fumes from around where the exhaust joins the cylinder head...
I've checked the bolt tightness (don't have/cant find the torque wrench, but tightened them to about the same as mine) and it stopped the leakage a bit, but still can feel gas escaping.
While the solution would be take it off, seal the join with silicon or exhaust cement or something and tighten it back up again, is it ok for the bike to be ridden around much before this is done?

Cheers

depends how the bike is running. if it is backfiring then fix it quick, otherwise no real drama.
exhaust cement is the answer, you remove the header pipe and put it in the join to seal then re-connect header pipe and idle the engine until it gets hot, then switch it off and let then cement set for a while.

Done and sorted :D
It wasn't backfiring, just sounded a wee bit different and could feel the exhaust on the back of my hand when I put it in front of the join...

Exhaust cement will only fix it for a short time,in my experience it will fail after a while..what you need is a new gasket.the little round one between the header and the cylinder head..

Thanks - Guess it will be one of those things to keep an eye on.

(though perhaps not while actually riding! o_O)
