View Full Version : 250 Coro loop

cheesemethod

Who would be interested in trying the Coro loop sometime when the weather gets a little better? I was thinking it would be cool to get a group of people together who are going to take it easy - ie not trying to see how far you can break the speed limit by on every strait. Preferably people on 250s, but any bike is fine as long as the rider isn't trying to set some sort of Coro loop lap record. Make a day out of it so we have plenty of time to stop and rest for those in the group who would still be coming to grips with riding that sort of distance in a day.

Who'd be keen?

ooorrrr do it with one or two other people who've done it before to be safe,

But yea leave an entire day for it. Last time I did it I left the autobahn at 9/9.30 and got home at 4.30 that was taking the scenic route via kaiua etc on the way back as well.

Take plenty of water, plenty of $$ for food/petrol etc and stop whenever you want to, its in your best interests!

I will be in if It's on a weekend. Or I can organise leave from work haha :devil2::clap:

SO MUCH FUN IS THE CORO LOOP!!!!

you live up North and have not already.I have done it four times and i live in Wellington.

When my wife says it would be nice to tour after xmas.I say Coromandel is always good when kids go back to school.

Its awesome road.Went around 3times in one day.Dropped the wife off in Thames and told her to only buy half what she thinks we could afford and what could be carried on the bike.

She posted clothes back to Welly.Sneeky b___h.
it was still worth it.

I know you're supposed to be having a careful ride but keep your eyes peeled going over both sides of the Coro Hill. With all the recent rain, there have been ongoing small slips and the council trucks have been out almost daily tidying up. What they've managed to do is spill clay on the road when loading their trucks and when I went over the hill in the car last night, there was clay smeared all over the road on 2 or 3 bends. Also, there's water constantly draining across the eastern side of the hill on a couple of bends and it's getting a bit green so take care!

I'm loving the tag "be safe people" , seriously if you ride even 1% like a dick it wont be tolerated! I (and I suspect that I speak on behalf of most people here) DO NOT WANT ANY ACCIDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please don't ride like chaos rider (among others), especially with other 250 riders on the loop.

I'll be in the front group if people want a safe pace setter, (another couple of sensible people to ride with me would be appreciated)

One doesn't... But if ya wanna just cruise and not have to worry about anyone behind you, TEC is the place to be :2thumbsup

Depends on how you define "cruise", many people would cruise at what others would think is going fast. Whereas others would truly just be pootling along taking in the scenery.

How about something like this:

RULES OF THIS RIDE

Ok, due to the apparent large volume of riders turning
up to this event, to keep things safer, I am instituting
some rules.

Those who know me realise I am quite flexible and don't
like over organisation on group rides but because of the
amount of people coming and the fact that it would be
nice to complete a Coro ride of this size without a
bin the following rules will need to apply.

Most of these are common sense for large group rides.

1. I will not be riding the majority of the time at
my normal pace for safety reasons as I have not ridden
with a few of the riders turning up. You can maintain
a fast pace in small groups with riders you know well but
this ride will need to be toned down a bit.

2. Try and keep the top speed limit down to
save your licence and to prevent this turning into
a race to get the last scallop burger at the Coroglen.

3. No overtaking on blind corners. In regard to this
ensure you keep in your lane when you can also see
through corners as these will be the sections of road
other riders will be passing you on if you are slower
than them in the twisties. This means keeping the right
lane free at all times except if you are overtaking.
Absolutely no undertaking at anytime.

4. When overtaking, make sure no one is already doing
so, or else you will end up with an unwanted pillion.
Always indicate your intentions at all times.

4. Leave a good following distance, because if a rider
in front has to brake hard, with lots of riders you get
a concertina effect which means a large pile of bikes
and riders to untangle and you will definitely miss out
on your burger.

5. If you find it necessary to point your front wheel
at the sun or your rear wheel at the moon, just make sure
you have plenty of room and you won't take out other riders
if things go pear shaped.

6. Don't blast past every one on the straights and then
end up holding up more experienced riders in the tight
stuff. If you see you are holding people up, shake your
right leg, move to the left and slow down a little
so they can pass safely and ride to their own abilities.

7. Finally, all riders are not to exceed their own comfort
level and must ride to their own abilities. Do not let
the red mist come down and the tetesterone take over
and think you can keep up with the more experienced riders
if you are not experienced yourself.

How do you know you are riding beyond your abilities:
a) Your breathing gets rapid.
b) You visor fogs up easily, especially in the tight
stuff.
c) Your heart rate increases.
d) You feel uncomfortable.
e) You know you are going quicker than you should and
you know you are pushing it more than usual.
f) Your lines go to pieces and things get out of
shape under braking.
g) You have a nice view of the sky through native
foliage and you hurt lots.

Jonno.

3) Clockwise/anticlockwise, or work that out on the day?

#1 Cops doing 130km/h on the motorway with no lights or siren wont stop you for following behind them

#2 Take a fricken camel back (water thingy in a bag) even on a cold day

#3 DO NOT let other riders push your speeds up by sitting behind you :scooter:. If they really are faster than you they'll pass you.

#4 Even though its been sunny all day 50% of the corners are under the shade and are still damp.

#5 Yes the scenery is beautiful No your not allowed to stare at it while you are riding!!

#6 Your bike can perform better than you can. Even though it feels like the wrong thing to do, if you need to straighten up in the corner and crank it hard over to avoid a possum it can handel it.

#7 Following on from above, possums are had as rock and slippery as soap.

#8 Don't get on ur bike straight after eating 2 pies and a coke

#9 Reccomended speeds are higher than those on SH16 ie a 65 corner is more like a 55 if you were on SH16. :gob:

#10 (As stated in the Auckland tag-o-rama thread) If a car boot opens infront of you, don't rely on aerodynamics to keep it closed cos it wont stay closed.... Back the fuck off

Are there many gassies on the way? My GN doesnt have a very big petrol tank and the reserve doesnt always work even though there is gas in it.

Your bike fixed?

A full length coro loop is a lot of effort, especially in the rain, especially if you are then only gonna half enjoy it, especially for less-experienced 250 riders.

na but I can try borrow my flatmates bandit 250.

and yea that 2nd part is true

I dont wanna sound like a wanker but if you are inexperienced (Not saying that i'm all knowing and all that) if you still aren't confident or safe then maybe the coro loop wouldnt be a good idea.

Just depends on if the "red mist" decends on u or not

a little bit of advice as previously given on KB.

all organised rides should have time, date and place of meet in first post or in title.

but hey what do you expect with girls running it :bleh:
