I think the largest jeans Draggin make for off the shelf purchase is 46 inch waist. I've sent you a PM.

I think Motomail stock some larger jeans, but don't know the brand. I saw them on special there a couple of months ago (they weren't shifting).

Yeah, Motomail had some very large pairs down in their clearance area, but not sure if the sizes went into the 50's

Its been bugging me for a while that all you can get in rider pants are jeans ( or one pair of chinos from draggin ), but not everyone can go to work in jeans. So here is a fix. Find a pair of trousers you like, business, casual or whatever ( but I suggest you make it strong material ) and line the ass and knees yourself.

I have found a place in Auckland that sells the kevlar spandex cloth that is just like the stuff in my TEKNIC Warrior jeans.

http://www.texspec.co.nz

42" wide - $100+gst per meter.

1 meter goes a long way, say 4 pairs of trousers ( if you only fit as much as a draggin jean ).

All you then need to do is find a local Taylor, and you are the master/mistress of your own fashion.

Couldn't you also do this with leather instead of kevlar?? Just line your "street" or "work" pants with leather panels on the inside??

You would be better off making kevlar underwear than trying to line your work pants!
at least then you wont be disappointed when the kevlar liner comes out of the sleves ect ect

The only reason you wear Kevlar is so your fat arse doesn't burst the seams. Isn't that right tubby?

I now remember why I don't come on kiwibiker very often. Next time I will keep possible useful info to myself. I will try this once more ( and await the standard KB abuse ). Yes there are always different ways of skinning the same cat ( sorry cat lovers ). Yes leather is just another way :) As to the patches coming off, well yes of course, but would I be any better off with any other kevler lined jean ?. Yes I am also fat, but in some peoples world, this means I can not ride a bike because I don't want to wear full leathers and look like a fat power ranger while going to my customers. If you do not like the idea, then such is life. Just offered a location to buy Kevler, take it of leave it. :)

Oh Forgot to say, I did think about kevler undies but the cloth is too thick and could cause some very strange rubbing and heat rash ( but some people may like that ). Shame as this would have been the perfect answer one set needed for all you pant needs. Dragin make a longjohn, but same problem too hot in summer, but you could do the same as its near as the same material .
BTW for all those who say don't do it, because .... , agree or not, something is better that nothing. We all see a lot of people riding bikes with no gloves, teeshirt, jandles and shorts, I choose to take the middle road.

I have a pair of Dragin size 52's in blue - there too big for me - trust me you have to be a big man to wear them I wear my work pants under them and theres still loads and loads of room.

I would sell them for the right price (replacement costs for example) I have only worn them about half a dozen times and they have not been washed yet. Also have knee armour for them too.

If your keen send me a PM

I know that Hood jeans will make larger sizes to order:

http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/index.html

No idea about shipping rates, but that will all be covered on the site.

Hope this helps.

Just a quick update on the make it your self trousers,

I took the Kevlar material I bought and had a local ( new lynn ) alterer sow in the
material. And now I have Black chino Kevlar pants.

I am so happy with the work I have bought some more material and am having another pair made.

Cost.
Trousers $100 ( depends on your trousers. ) ,
Material $100
Making ( including shortening ) $55. ( lots of unstitching and re-stitching )
Total $255 ( some one smaller may only cost $50 for materials
because I have about 1/3 meter left over for my Big size 44" waist. ).
So could be as low as $200.

This may seem expensive, but even with a $200 pair of pre-made Bike Jeans, large people would require to have the knee inserts moved higher and the leg shortened at approx. $30 or more.

And they would still only be able to have Jeans.

What is the price for Draggin's or such jeans? Seems to me that those prices you'd be quite close to a ready made set kevlar trou...

Yes you are absolutely right, if you are looking for jeans or even chinos, you can buy draggon or other kevlar jeans cheaper, and with out all the hassle.

I am doing this is because I do not want jeans, but need smart work trousers when I turn up to customers, without having to shed a second skin. If some one made them ( apart from chinos ) I would never have gone down this path. But they don't so I did :) and i'm happy I did. I am not trying to talk others into this ( some people think Kevlar pants are not safe ) I am just telling people a way forward if they want something not off the shelf. And for those that wouldn't be caught dead in a kevlar pant, and don't wear leather every time they ride, remember there are many more riders that have been skinned alive without them. :)

my dear old nan used to be a seamstress and i'm pretty keen on getting a pair of my jeans lined by her using this material. any ideas on what sort of stiching is required (type, method?) also any need for patterns (where can i get them) or should nan be able to work it out with me pointing out which areas of my arse i'd like to keep intact?
