People say "the 70's" and its all fucking hippies and flowers and flared jeans and psychedelia and all that shit. But its not. Its about punk rock, skinny jeans and bad attitudes.

Which some of us still cultivate. For a NZ take on it, you need a copy of AK-79. There's no video but here is the reunion in 2008

I legged it up the stairs, and out a back window and down the street. Think you can't run in Doc Martens? think again!

Went to see sticky filth at the whitehorse in new plymouth, got absolutly shitfaced on mushys and port and ended up in waitara in the middle of the night somehow. Had a pair of brand new 14 up cherry reds on and got chased by a carload of mobsters. Managed to lose them and ran all the way to bell block. I've seen Flesh Device live several times back in the day. And No Tag. A Punk at the top of the stairs with a softball bat smacking all of the skinheads trying to get in and cause trouble. Brawling in the streets with the Street Kids that wanted your leather jacket and studded belt. Fun times.

1970's- Bell Bottoms were out and Flares were in. Those that couldn't afford Levi jeans wore Amco Bull Denims.
I bought my 1st Album (Beach Boys) they couldn't surf and neither could I.
Brut was the king of man smell only to be replaced by Blue Stratos.
A Big Mac (k) was a Truck.
Labours charismatic leader Norm Kirk died.
Our family car was a MKIII Cortina.
....and Ned Zepplin released his one and only hit record.

I still listen to a lot of ska, and late 70's 2 Tone. If you want to relive your yoof, grab the Trojan boxsets from Amazon or your local record emporium. The Beat, The Selecter, The Specials, those guys etc etc. great music.

The 60's Jamaican stuff is amazing too. I got into it solely because of the Clash covers of Junior Murvin's "Police and Thieves" and Toots and the Maytals "Pressure Drop"

I fucking LOVED this album when I was 16. Plus it was considered "alternative" and "new wavey" where I lived at the time.

This, Talking Heads 77, a lot of Bowie, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and The Clash "London Calling" (released in December 1979 I'll have you know) were the soundtrack of my mid to late teens. And I still love all the shit I loved then: rock and roll, motorcycles, and boobies. also beer.

...being chased by grey HQ's with a flashing light...knowing they would not get around a lot of the tight hilly corners in my home-town, in anything under a three point turn...T250-1...boys in blue-nil...and if they did get you. it was generally only a kick in the arse...and they were only called 'the cops' or 'the fuzz' then...and sometimes you may even have a beer with one after rugby in the clubrooms...

Still the same down here mostly - if they call the cop a 'pig' you know they're from out of town. Or a retarded druggie, often an 'import' too.
