So I hit some oil boyracers had spilled on the road - was dark but saw it a bit late. Dropped it at ~ 5 kph - pick up bike see flames drop it and walk away to watch. Wasn't gonna risk life and limb for a bike.

Pics will be up soon, when I get them off the phone.

Midly pissed that i'd put 2 new tyres on it 2 weeks ago

Was funny to see the towies form - he'd filled out the " Colour " column - TOAST

Needless to say I need a bike now.

Holy shit.

Good plan to get the hell outta Dodge - not worth burning to try to save a bike.

He carries a cigarette lighter.

Yes I do :Punk:- for my ciggies (yes they're gonna kill me)

I suspect one of the fuel lines came loose and pissed petrol into the alternator (bike was still running)

Well after so much mucking around insurance has been sorted.

What a load of grief filling in 4 pages of forms and then 2 pages of disposal forms and then to be told that they aren't going to quibble on price and offer me what it was insured for minus excess. I mean who gets more from the ins company than some prices on dealer floors.

That and I doubled my money on it (after fixing it up)

All in less than a week FFS:eek5:

Ive already got a bike lined up - M900 dark:woohoo:

Was it your bike that burned, or did the fuckwits pour diesel on the ground and a hot exhaust scraping along the ground set it off?

You're not going to start diesel burning with sparks.

mnkyboy
1st August 2009, 16:16
You're not going to start diesel burning with sparks.

no, diesel generally needs pressure to combust or a lot of heat to burn.

The fire was in around the carbs/alternator area

Just to play devil's advocate here, I assume you have a good reason for identifying "boy racers" as being the culprits for the spill?

Glad to hear you're ok though. Bikes are replaceable, people are not!

And a new pipe dude, nice looking bike with a dustbin strapped on the side of it! You want to let the growl out anyway surely..

mnkyboy
2nd August 2009, 18:33
Well I picked up the Duc

I see what people say about jappa fours having no soul.

The aural pleasure is fantastic - pipes have new cartridges in them. I love the chattering clutch, I miss the sheer lazy torque that the 1200 had but it handles like a 250 and rocks my world:Punk:

I also found the ducati character that people describe - started missing in pissing down rain but came right.

Start investing in lockwire and cloth tape to catch all the bits that vibrate off.

See how long that lasts when you own one.

Congrats and you'll love the Dark but flick it once it starts costing money.

You meet the strangest people on ya travels...

Couple of K's onto the expressway heading north, spy a tall figure in black leathers carrying a helmet (sadly, it wasn't Zorro) quick glance and its 'I know that face' :shifty: the CB dips as the change-down and front brake is applied. ''Looks like you need a lift mate''?...so I crank up the pre-load a notch or two (eez a big boy) and drop him off at Manukau to catch a bus and make plans to get bike back to Auckland...ah well, 28 days should fly by....

Is the C.I.D back home and locked away?

Most certainly is.

And while I have t-27 days and counting to think about my perchant for speed:spanking: - I have whipped the carbs off to give em a good clean - checked belts - doing valve clearances tomm; even gave it a wash.

It's gonna be a clean, mean machine when said plastic arrives

Sux being on a bus/train when you have a duc in the garage.........cest la vie
